Aston Villa (H) - Friendly - Wed 17th July, 7.30pm (L 3-0)

Are Kamwa and Moore any better than DJT?

I’d take Rachel Daly. Better striker than we have.

Seriously, surely Kobei Moore would be a better option than Deon Moore or Kamwa.

50k fee to the Villa though the chap near us said last night and plenty of concessions in attendance. Still will be a decent profit though when taking into account food and beverage sales.

This Villa game is the worst one to read in to.

I’m an advocate of judge after the first league game. You’ll see the squad. You’ll have seen the system and style of play,

I assume we are waiting on a flurry of loan signings to add quality and edge to this group.

Ram and Adomah appeared to want to affect the game which was nice. Jellis seems to have energy. Can’t take much more from it.

Quick free kick showed we are as switched on as ever

PA announcer is just weird, Ranting and Rambling. What’s he adding to the matchday ?

Did he, in what way?

Yeah but there’s other teams out there that would get us that much if not more. Change it about a bit, bleeding hell

Were they charging to get in the locker last night? They had the big roller shutter doors open at the back which faces the ticket office open and there were door men on there but seemed to be free for anyone to come and go.

So we don’t keep all the money anymore?

No, I think we did one season when they were under Stevie G but that was very much a one-off. It’s still a good money spinner for us but The Villa aren’t a charity.

I thought we did well last night. I’m not disputing we need further additions but i think it might be squad cover in most positions now. Obviously forwards (and ones that can score goals) are an absolute must but that aside I think we’re fairly well set at least from a first team perspective.

Feck me hope Sadler doesn’t read your summary of the squad

What would your summary be?

Don’t get me wrong if the money is there I’d love to see a higher calibre midfielder coming in that keeps the ball better than we currently do, a higher grade and fitter version of Earring, and the elephant in the room is the goalscoring forward(s). That aside though it really isn’t all doom and gloom.

I didn’t see the game and I generally don’t read too much into friendlies tbh. I’m going on where we were last season and the ins and outs. If we don’t sign 3 or 4 decent players, including at least one striker, then I see us being mid table, plus or minus a bit, but certainly not promotion favourites, which a lot on here are demanding that we should be.

Agree mate, as it stands we are below mid table and weaker than last Season.

Work to be done, and not after the season starts this time!

I was shocked by the arrogance and downright rudeness of the Villa lot. Sat in lower tier giving it the big un. Some fat bird in a pink jumper was well excited when Toilet Barry scored. Why they allowed that lot to sit in our home end I will never know. Will not go again. On a plus side the flood lights work.

Good to see that we’ve got floodlights and a pitch.
I’m sure we used to have those sorts of things at Fellows Park, and over the course of the summer all we were really bothered about was reading about what players we had signed.
I don’t remember anyone spending an iota of time eulogising about the grass or the lights.
Still, modern life and all that.

ā€œThe chap near usā€ is that where you get all your information Croddy? :joy:

His work rate, movement and agression up front and coming back in defence, 4 goals until injury.

I thought there was an overall concensus he improved, I didnt imagine it did I??

I’d never met him before, he was a Villa fan. Was some good banter going round and lovely reminiscing with him about 1982.
