While Barrow’s SO Legal Stadium is not famous for its atmosphere, the ground is usually still an excellent away day, offering visitors a combination of football, scenic views and plenty of entertainment options in the local area.
Away fans are mostly housed on one side of the Holker Street Terrace (towards the Brian Arrowsmith Stand) at one end of the ground.
There is also some additional standing space available beside the Brian Arrowsmith Stand.
Oddly the Club have elected to segregate supporters at that end by the use of a dividing fence which means that no visiting fans can stand directly behind the goal.
During the infamous Summer of 2020, a roof was erected over the whole of the Holker Street End, providing welcome cover for visiting supporters.
When segregation is in place, all away fans must enter Holker Street via the turnstiles located on Wilkie Road.
If you are in the standing portion of the away section, then you will have a bit more flexibility with your view and as long as you are not behind someone taller than you, your view of the pitch should be fairly good.
However, if you are instead in the seating section, then, for the best view of the entire pitch possible, we strongly recommend sitting a few rows back.
Barrow is widely regarded as a welcoming and is often praised for its friendly fanbase that is usually more than happy to drink alongside away fans on matchday.
With that in mind, it perhaps won’t be surprising to learn that away fans are welcome to drink in the catering outlet located just outside the ground and in the Cross Bar situated near the club’s main reception. The Bar offers a range of alcoholic and non- alcoholic fruit based drinks and has on occasion also provided some cold food options.
However, if you are set on enjoying your pre-match pints at a pub, then the best options for away fans are as follows:
Hawcoat Park Sports Club - If you love sports and you love clubs then you are in luck, this club caters for all well behaved spectators of any colour or creed. You may even get the chance to try your hand at Archery or Crown Green Bowls before the big game.
Ambrose Hotel - Situated a gentle stroll away from the arena, this is a perennial away spectators favourite for it’s range of drinks and snacks.
The Furness Railway - An always popular JD Wetherspoon freehouse, superb amenities and within walking distance of the arena.
Hot food options are available inside the arena including cheeseburgers (£4.05), tomato soup (£2.95) and cheese pie (£4.20) as well as a range of snacks and sweet treats such as crisps and confectionery.
Whilst settled weather conditions are forecast for Saturday the April sun can be deceptively strong so with temperatures anticipated in the early sixties the away audience is strongly encouraged to cover up and drink plenty of fluids.
