Where does this defence rate among the defences of past years?
For me this is the best since 2006/07 - but is this 2024/25 defence better?

Yes
Weve had some great defenders and great defensive units in the past. I cant recall a defensive trio previously though as good as Tails, Harry and Dave.
Ask me at the end of the season.
I agree; let’s wait. But I will say that we have another 3 (4 if you count Priestly) who can fill in with style.
Dann , Gerrard , Fox and … Pead was it ? Very decent unit .
Dann and Gerrard were better than Dave I’d say but I really like Williams and Allen I think they could play higher like they did.
Taylor Allen really does look class on his day
Id put these 3 up there, and given start of season youd have put these 3 as back up too daniels, farq, mcentee
Rolls Royce.
In fairness the above mentioned other unit is probably the nearest contender.
And Chris Westwood, often at right back. Not pretty but it worked in those days.
The combination of our first choice back 3 is crazy really
Allen utility man most wouldn’t have argued with him being released this time last year
Williams plucked from the depths of non league
Dave who isn’t the finished article but is a good consistent performer probably was signed as backup.
Unless there’s injury the back 5 are nailed, don’t seen Donervan featuring at all, McEntee will get some minutes in midfield, Weir for the upcoming virtu game and Farquahson will probably get crocked again when he eventually if at all comes back.
I said after his first game at LCB, in which he filled in in desperation if you recall, that he looked a natural in that role.
Defensively sound and offers us so much stepping in and delivering in attacking areas.
Think they may be a better unit but individually no way !
fox was our best lb in recent years other than Rico and Dann ended up proving himself in the premiership
Allen will be playing in the championship in the next two years imo. He’s exactly the type of ball playing CB so many sides in championship and league 1 want now and he’s pretty young still.
Incredible his progression here as first season he really didn’t figure hugely and many wouldn’t have been fussed if he’d been released but credit to Sadler for seeing something and he’s developed hugely in the last year.
Williams could have a Scarr type career for sure.
Scott Dann was completely different gravy . I doubt any of the three we have now will carve out such an auspicious top flight career. Ince was better than Simkin but ince was the finished article and it’s brilliant to see Simkin improving all the time.
I’d take Barrett over Pead and Gordon over Taylor but not Fox. Allen and Gerrard on a par. Williams not a Roper yet and per above Dann far better than Dave.
I think out of our own players we have in team (not on loan) with potential to move up the leagues Barrett is the one that stands out for me to play at the highest level.
He is young quick, good defensively great at getting forward, excellent final ball. But most of all which is key to progress is he is assured, composed and doesn’t get flustered.
and scored a few
The systems and roles both teams played are so contrasting.,
I think only Williams would push Gerrard Dann Roper. Barrett is streets ahead of Craig Pead or Mark Wright. Fox as a much stronger defender than Gordon but as a WB I’d struggle to split them.
But then you have Allen who in a 3 is a must have.
