Agreed with this
Gordon might be good off the ball, but I’ve never ever seen anyone ever score a goal without touching the ball! I’m so pssed off with our pre-season transfer dealings - we have very little creativity and even less goalscoring threat! Gawd knows what our XG numbers will be this season. Where is the incentive to buy a season ticket to watch us try to nick games 1-0?!!
Don’t know why you think we are trying to win games 1-0. That to me is is indicative of a team that plays with 10 men behind the ball in their own half at all times. We don’t play like that at all. It seems to me today that the front five were all trying to win the ball fairly high up the pitch.
Even today there was the Lakin chance from Gordon’s cross, Barrett had a couple of shots, Stirk had a chance after jellis won the ball and a back heel from Lakin.
We are a decent team. We will be ok. The striker is always the final piece in the jigsaw, just chill out a bit.
What’s ok In your eyes, Andy?
The goals scored, results and performances will be fine this season (possibly 1 or 2 aberrations).
Very confident we will be top half. Stay clear of injuries top 7.
Goals scored , based on what? Your just making it up now.
Previous experience makes me feel the way I do about Walsall FC. Everything always seems to be done on the cheap- it’s not good enough! Other clubs of our size are signing good players- why aren’t we? I’ll chill when we’ve signed two decent strikers!!
We create enough chances, we did last season and we did today.
Also think we will bring in someone before the season starts.
Time will tell.
That’s my point, we never bring anyone in.
Hope I’m wrong, but I bet your going to be disappointed.
Not that many other teams are signing players I’m envious of though.
Port Vale
Gillingham
Possibly Carlisle with Charlie Wyke
We might create chances, but who is going to put them away? DJ might, as he is the best natural finisher we have had for a long time. But he ain’t going to do it from his sickbed! Will Flash do it? I think we know the answer. That leaves Matt. Let’s hope he is prolific in the 30% of games he plays. And you tell me to “chill”!
we will sign at least another striker, chill out.
When? 31 August when we’ve already played 5 games? Why do we leave it so late?
Rightly or wrongly, just because fans would sign certain players it doesn’t mean the club want those same players. If we were in for any of those mentioned by others, there could be a whole host of reasons why players have decided to join other clubs, apart from just wages.
Location, duration of contract, playing style, manager/coaching staff etc will also play a huge part.
I’m reserving judgement for now.
And who? Any ideas?
I think today showed our Midfield and defence is more than adequate we are just lacking in the final third but hopefully this will be sorted before our first game of the season.
Happy with that performance today, they didn’t look like a team who wil be challenging for promotion from league one though tbh.
Barrett was out of his depth against Dembele but did show glimpses of being a key player for us this season
Wish Simkin would play football and not hoof the ball, looks very confident in goal though.
Jellis looks a top signing, absolute class, and I think we have great options across the middle. It still need a little more depth there.
The obvious thing today was lack of finishing, we needed a Faal/Draper kind of player to bully there cb that was all over Maher.
A top half finish all depends on us filling forward gaps, if we do that, I’m confident we will have a really strong season.
Daniels set to have surgery on a knee injury, out for 6/7 weeks
Matt and Earing nothing serious, both back before the start of the season
I thought Jellis looked out best players today, the guy likes to get his shots away. He impressed me with his footwork too. The main disappointments for me were Dave and Barrett. The most disappointing though was RAM, he’s been built up to be our Savior and to be honest all he did today was to be over physical to make up for his lack of impact.
