Bradford City (H) - Sat 27th Feb, 3pm

Agree with most of your points Phil but blaming Robbo is a little unfair.
Reckon he’s gained us more points than he’s lost us so far.
Definitely a point away at Stevenage and Bradford.

We have far bigger problems than him just now.

Not blaming Roberts exclusively, but he’s cost us points this season - notably 2 points at Newport.

They could be the difference between relegation and staying up.

Personally I’m of the opinion we’ll never be successful (ie promotion or play off challengers) with Roberts in goal, he’s just too error prone, and will all-told cost us that critical 5-10 points a season

Have to disagree. Roberts until recently has been all over the place and I reckon most goalkeepers in the league would have done a more consistent job. Rose must be ■■■■■ to have not had a decent run in the team.

I say that as someone who has really backed him as a local lad to do well and would love to be proved wrong.

He’s been ■■■■ until lately and is lucky to still have the shirt.

What we are seeing here is the result of decades of lack of investment. We have numerous revenue streams that dont funnel money towards the team…it goes elsewhere.

How the game is these days, is exactly why we must give longer contracts to young players that are bought in for their potential to develop. Adebayo is the latest in a long line of players that has come here as a raw rookie, improved and then left for peanuts or worse.

As for affordability, giving a young player a three year contract at 50k a year is no different to giving him a two year contract at 50k a year and replacing with another 50k a year player when he leaves for nothing or next to nothing after 18 months.

The players are the most valuable asset that lower league clubs have, so it is vital that the process of managing them, and profiting from them is sound in the absence of a wealthy owner.

Which is fine as long as that player fulfils his potential. Unfortunately, when a 3 year contract doesn’t work out (James Baxendale), you’re left paying for the player you no longer want and his replacement.

But that is the risk that has to be taken. A risk that has to be managed and worked at.
Or we can carry on the way we are going as others pass us by.

The second Bradford goal looks horrendous. If the completely unmarked chap just outside the six yard box had let the ball run there was another unmarked blighter closing in at the far post. :grimacing:

I’m sure that in the past we used to offer 2yr deals and a third in our favour, linked to appearances etc?
But your absolutely correct that (especially when we don’t own our own ground) our players are our only asset and should be tied down.

It will cost a lot more than £300000 to get out of the Conference. Better keep keep the player to ensure we stay in League 2 and take it from there.

Had a tenner on us going down at 33/1

I agree with you, but the story is that we had to sell to survive.

According to who though? I know LP said that the finances didn’t look good but most businesses centrered around hospitality and sport will have finances that don’t look good now. Huge difference between that and needing to sell to survive.

Spot on with that comment DAN .I didn’t get the impression we had to sell…indeed the need to sell was the imminent end of their contracts when they would have left for nothing.

Well we will just have to disagree on this because Rico Henry’s come along infrequently !!!

He was our own product though.
How do you see the club improving from here then? What would be your plan?

Because of our policy of offering short contracts.

You just can’t say that with the benefit of hindsight and it would be financial suicide, to operate on a strategy of 3 year deals. Utter madness.

The jury was out on Ade at the end of last season and still is as to what level he will operate at in the long term. Same with Jules.

Whether it be DC himself, the players that were sold (Ade and Jules) or the ones that were signed (Sinclair and Clarke) there is a HELL OF ALOT of fans now being very vocal, at how things have turned out, when none of us thought we would be in this mess when DC was appointed.
