Sorry mate, I make no offence it’s a surprise probly born of ignorance…

Would you / do you live there and would you visit for a day trip over say… York, Chester, Lancaster, Bath, Winchester as vague examples.

I find it strange of all the cities in the UK, Bradford is regarded as a city of culture… the site of race riots, significant post industrial deprivation? I am probably being incredibly snobbish and ill informed, would I enjoy a trip down the high street and is there much history or a museum or so to see? The outskirts lovely and moor like?

For me it holds as one of the bleakest away days ever, perpetual cold and dark (Tuesdays nights) akin to how Tolkien described the depths of Mordor or Dagorland.

They often allocate this to provide a cultural/economic boost to deprived areas.
Think it’s been Londonderry, Hull and Cov previously.

So rather than a typical away trip should I consider a hotel and make a weekend of it? Because in my own opinion I wouldn’t even risk taking my car…

Seemed ok when I was there 9 years ago to buy a very nice 1998 Jap import Land Cruiser, which I’ve only just had to bin off last month.
Correction: that one was from a dealer in Burton, the Bradford one was a 1996 80 Series one bought in 2006.

Yep, City of Culture status is purely political….

City of culture 2017 was really good here. I think it has been beneficial. Unfortunately we missed much of it as we were dealing with continuous crises with my dad in Kendal.

Saltaire World Heritage Site, National Media Museum, David Hockney, J.B. Priestley, Andrea Dunbar…
Fair bit of culture in that lot.

I prefer Bradford to Coventry. Neither city centre is great but Bradford has a nicer square near the Interchange station with the boozers and I think the art gallery.

Only been there once for a 1-1 in 2015 and just drank in Leeds until 2pm and then got the train in so can’t really say either way how amazing or awful their town centre is.

You’ve got Skipton about 40 minutes away by train/car/bus etc.

Leeds is a fantastic city in its own right nowadays so that’s worth a weekend trip, Bradford probably just an hour or two to have a look around and drink and move on, same for Huddersfield.

Would say in that part of the world Barnsley and Wakefield are the major town centres that really don’t have much going for them. Burnley across the Moors is terrible aswell.

I have always enjoyed my trips to Bradford. You also have Leeds, Harrogate and the Dales if you wish to make a weekend of it.

I’m retired now but I used to spend many a night out in my truck around Bradford and Shipley. I always enjoyed being around the place and the people. I’d recommend you visit Saltaire, brilliant day out, Google it…:+1:

Had to be either this or Fleetwood for me.

I’ve chosen Fleetwood.

I feel we will sell over twelve hundred for Bradford but might struggle to shift 600 for Fleetwood on a Tuesday night at the end of January thereby making my own contribution at Fleetwood a bit more valuable.
