Welsh is at it…

This game fits very nicely into the “Banana skin” category. Logically we should win this one at a stroll, but (as we’ve seen already) League 2 can sometimes make a nonsense of form - I mean, who expected us to ship 6 goals at home to Fleetwood?

Carlisle are in the process of getting used to their new Manager - Mike Williamson, only appointed last month after Paul Simpson was shown the door. Their most recent League 2 games reveal the following results:

Sept 21st Swindon Town (A) WON 0-2
Sept 28th Grimsby Town (H) LOST 2-3
Oct 1st Notts County (H) LOST 0-2
Oct 5th Colchester Utd (A) DREW 0-0
Oct 12th AFC Wimbledon (A) LOST 4-0
Oct 19th Harrogate Town (H) DREW 1-1

At the time of writing, Carlisle Utd are currently bottom but one in League 2, and in their 12 games so far they’ve scored 11 and conceded 24 goals, which almost mirrors our tally, except that ours are opposite!! (Scored 23, conceded 13).

Not exactly inspiring form, but they do have players capable of inflicting damage - none more so than Luke Armstrong (son of Alun), who scored at Bescot whilst on the books of Salford City. More recently he got their goal in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Harrogate.

As far as our own form is concerned, we are a mere 2 points below the table-topping Port Fail, but we do have a game in hand. A win against Carlisle could well propel us to the top, but Fail are playing at Harrogate Town, while Doncaster Rovers entertain Bromley, whose positive start to this campaign hasn’t lasted very long.

Forecast? With no recent nasty injuries and a strong squad this must surely be 3 points for The Saddlers - let’s go with a 3-0 result, assuming no sillies from Simkin…

Good job welsh

Thanks welsh . Excellent as usual :+1:

I’m slightly worried about this because as Welsh has already said Mike Williamson is theiir manager, and Matt Sadler hasn’t got the better of him yet. When he was Franchise manager they walloped us last season and we lost again this season. Can’t recall if he was manager when we played them at home last season when we drew 0-0 but if he was, there’s 3 games where Sadler hasn’t outwitted him. I’m just a little worried he will outwit him again

I clicked on a Carlisle win by mistake :flushed:

Our resounding non-success against last seasons bottom Sutton and FG makes me nervous , but I think we’re better equipped than last year

When a new manager comes in they’ll work on a few things and that can take a few weeks then you suddenly get a game where that all clicks.

Lets hope that’s not till next week, but have evey faith our guy will continue to prove we are a real threat in this league and the Bescot is not a place you should look foward to going to.

The pessimist in me thinks oh blimey it’s a Tuesday night game and look at what happened in the last Tuesday nighter.
The optimist in me thinks we’re rested and fresh scoring goals for fun with a mean defence great support and Carlisle are having a nightmare of a season so far.
Yes it’s fair to think of it as a potential banana skin but if you were a Carlisle supporter coming here how confident would you feel. I’d be expecting a right hammering.

These are games we have to win, poor results against week teams last season, ultimately cost us. We are no doubt a much better side now, but the games still have to be won. Doesn’t matter if it is a scrappy performance if you get the job done.

I fear the banana skin possibility, but also they play 3-4-3 with three good forwards (on paper) I’m not sure we have come across this formation this season. My fear is it will pin our full backs back but surely our midfield will have enough to unlock there relatively suspect defence

As an aside, what a sh*t fixture for both Carlisle and their fans. A nearly 400 mile round trip on a Tuesday night when the computer could have been programmed to offer, Morecambe, Barrow, Fleetwood, Harrogate, Bradford, Accy… And it’s the same for us for us for the return on Tues 4th March.
I know that we have to work around Tuesday fixtures, but surely the EFL could have done better than this.
Madness.

I have gone for a win…not with great confidence but we should have too much for them 2-1.

I can’t get used to the fact we’re playing well. Going for a 0-0 draw.

I just hope we don’t get overconfident and forget about defending. Fleetwood this season, Bradford at home last season examples of where our defence went AWOL. Looking forward to it. UTS.

Current league table and form would have this a home banker. These are the types of matches we need to be winning as in previous seasons we would drop points on this one. I’m confident of us winning this one.

After the last home game, I would hope the players have their minds focused. No one in the division has let in more goals, so we should go for it.

No one has scored more league goals than us and Carlise have conceded the most.

Got to be Walsall nil then in the scoreline
