We have got our second wind now, just hope we don’t blow it (I’ll get me coat )
Pretty much every comment about the match itself is positive? Not sure what you are reading.
Stay at homes? There’s season ticket holders that couldn’t get tickets for yesterday.
Oh no.
I just think we have to appreciate that there is a range of personality types across the forum, all reacting to the same situation. We have optimists, realists, pragmatists, pessimists who will naturally process things in a different way - but that doesn’t make them any less of a fan.
I’m delighted with yesterday, it’s lifted some of the numbness I’ve felt since Crewe, but I’m still terrified that we’ll blow the second leg because Chesterfield are a good team and they can hurt us. Equally, there were strong signs that the spirit, energy and defensive stability that served us so well before January was returned, and that’s a credit to the team and MS.
We all want the team to do well, but after the season fell apart some of us are struggling to believe. That can all change on Friday.
Sky are showing the whole match now. SS Football.
Yeah watched it again this morning and strangely was as nervous if not more so than I was there Sunday, even though I knew the outcome lol
It must be the security of been stood with fellow sufferers lol
I think I have been all of those this season I think. I’d like to think I was a realist through the rough times but more likely I drifted into a pessimist.
I genuinely don’t think there are Walsall fans who want us to lose so they can have a moan. I’ve never believed that.
Anyway I was so sure we were going to lose yesterday while both the kids were telling me we would win. I was trying to lower their expectations, what do I know eh?
That was something special yesterday. When you consider how our season has gone and then promotion taken from us in the dying seconds last weekend. Took a lot for the team to be so resilient.
I am also bricking it for Friday, you just know that even if we do it, we won’t do it the easy way.
Players get allocations so I assume they got in that way.
No different to Butler and Baxendale being in the crowd for Barnsley away.
Fair enough, I guessed it would be something like that to be fair.
O’Donnell was at Barnsley too. Butler didn’t like the chant “Should have put the ball in the Burton’s net” much
22 minutes, summariser says ," Chesterfield so in control now," with a graphic showing we hadn’t had a touch in their box since the first minute. In so many ways ,this game was a mirror image of the Vale game. I wouldn’t believe any Vale fan who said they were always going to win that.
That’s the most promising thing, the strength in the group to dig deep given what happened and all the outside noise. For me, dispels any suggestion that MS has lost the dressing room
We’re a clean sheet from Wembley, not sure if that’s the best or worst way to look at it!
Me, neither. But there is a currency in ‘I told you so’ and related confirmation bias that sometimes leads to it appearing that way (win or lose). But that’s the nature of a forum.
Thanks for the heads up, have recorded it and will watch the game again this evening while Mrs Crod is listening to the Archers.
That was a brilliant moment.
There’s no doubt that Chesterfield are a decent side and they came into the game in very good form whereas Walsall had been a mere shadow of the early season saddlers but even though the outcome at Crewe was heartbreaking there were positive signs that perhaps we were starting to find a bit of that early season form once again.
Yesterday despite home advantage and more of their fans in attendance the saddlers controlled the game even when they put us under pressure, we rode the storm and held on and their fans were left a little bit stunned imo.
It’s only job half done and our home form hasn’t been great recently but this is a golden opportunity we mustn’t let slip.

Great thread showing our change in shape in the last few games
Of course their goalkeeper or any of their players will never have done anything like that.
Yeah - a severe case of sour grapes I reckon - that said and again, he admitted they will be hell bent on getting that first goal on Friday so we need to be absolutely on it from the whistle…
No safe approach please boys - let’s get the goal and take the wind right of the moaning b*******
Better late than never! Good analysis
Up there for whinger of the year award. I hope Sadler pins it on the dressing room wall on Friday night.
And while I’m on, it makes me laugh all these Chesterfield fans discovering the ‘beautiful game’ and decrying our direct play. Chesterfield are amongst the biggest hoofers I can remember over the years.
