Chesterfield (H) February 15th, 3pm

Do they?

I think they’ve made us look completely unbalanced and disjointed.

Kenny Burns was originally a centre half, he played up front for a few seasons at Bloose before spending the rest of his career back in his original position. If you’re going to use tenuous 50 odd year old examples to embellish your argument then at least do younger posters that havnt a clue what you’re on about the service of getting your facts right. :+1::+1:

It’s still an example of Clough playing a player out of position.

He played Roy Keane in defence at times too, perhaps the younger posters have heard of him👋

Ok, I guess that’s a fair view. I thought our performances against Gillingham Salford and Chesterfield were very similar. Very aggressive and getting the ball and players forward.

Ok, can see where you are coming from if you feel that.

I don’t mind mcentee in midfield, although I prefer him as the right sided centre half. I think Lakin, like a few others, looked like he needed a rest recently so can understand the “rotation” that’s happened with those two. Lakin was back doing what he does best yesterday though. Harrison is just a much better player then Gordon all round , who Ive never really been a fan of tbh. I wonder why we don’t use that midfield tweak where it goes to a 2-1 instead of 1-2 more often. Did it at notts county second half too, where coincidentally it was mcentee who came on as one of the 2. Matt and Harrison are clearly the best two to be starting at the moment, so hopefully they can both stay fit.

I wonder who will play next week as apparently Jellis is suspended.

Is he? Thought yesterday’s was his 9th (in L2) - and it’s now 10 yellows in 37 games, so he needs to keep his nose clean for the next 6.

He has had 2 others, but they were in the Carabao and don’t carry over (if they did, he wouldn’t have played yesterday after picking one up against Gillingham).

He’s not going to believe that because my theory is correct divine intervention but he struggles with god to believe that also . :man_facepalming:

Morecambe isn’t it, at their place :wink:

Crazy idea, but I’d like to see Allen on the left of midfield. Means Weir and Allen can overlap and cover each other. Plus I don’t want to drop Allen but Weir has done more than enough to earn a run in the team.

I agree that weir has done well when in the team and gas certainly helped with quality deliveries into the box etc. When you say left mid for Allen, do you mean left wing back, and so give liam gordon a rest or as the left of the 3 centre mids? In which case, who would you leave out for him? Lakin?
I think after saturday, it showed how key he is to our press and energy.

I hope you are right ANDY- someone (I think P. T.) said he would be out.I wasn’t sure but it will be 2 games if that is correct.

I think this but as I posted before, when Sadler was speaking to WM after the match and he was asked if it’ll be these two as a pairing, moving forward (as they looked good together) he said ‘We’ll see.’ What worries me is if Gordon suddenly gets fit would Sadler put him back in.

A fairly jubilant debrief yesterday and a sense of massive relief. The key word for me was character. The character we showed going a goal down with our indifferent recent run. The frowns from the audience and sense of agitation was palpable so despite having to come back without the backing of a significant minority we showed fantastic belief and character to turn it around and win impressively in the end against a competent Chesterfield outfit.

A few contenders for Leamore Windows match hero and this was by no means a unanimous decision but overall we gave it to Harrison who was a really thorn in the opposition defence, they will be having sleepless nights over him for many weeks to come I am sure. A proper old school forward and a player, definitely not a player hater. My S&S Steelstock match rating was a 9.

After watching the third goal I would say our 12th man was fitness, the way Weir ran past their man it looked like he was totally done in and more or less said sod it I’m not going to catch him.

Given that we now have a prayer room, I think the word you need is ‘congregation’.

I think that it is easy to underestimate how energy sapping heavy pitches can be. Sadsball also requires a level of press that needs the whole team working very hard, in unison.

The midfielders have looked jaded because our wild cards of Jack Earing and George Hall have been unavailable for an extended time period.

Regarding Lowe, we have signed/loaned in 3 players to do his job, supplemented by Josh and DJ.

I feel a great deal of sympathy with Josh Gordon (and DJ for slightly different reasons) because you can only gain match sharpness with game time; however, we can’t afford to have passengers when we are trying to grind out crucial points.

Because the transfer window opens in January, I firmly believe that the likes of Chan and Lipsuic are there to cover injuries, but they are there to blend in over the Easter period, when games come thick and fast, on better (firmer) pitches.

Along with Wheatley, you cannot expect young players to parachute in to league two mens very competitive football and be 8/10 or more - it is very rare (Lowe being an exception to the rule).

The other key point for fans wanting rotation is that a settled team normally yields success because patterns and team shape lead to playing on impulse, which naturally brings about quicker, slicker periods of play.

Nobody is saying that Uncs is a centre forward, but when Jamma exits the field, you need a general to knit the team shape together and see out games.

I think that playing a centre half in midfield is to counteract threats from the opposition (eg Crowley in the Notts County game in the second half); Josh Gordon is UNFIT and low on confidence BUT understands playing selflessly; Jamma is probably our player of the year because he is just a warrior who leads the way. McEntee is a hardworking, trustworthy footballer whom Sadler sees as a vital cog in his machine. We have a team of captains and I consider it disingenuous to decry individuals like Josh and Oisin - personally, I consider it really counter intuitive behaviour.
