I’ve always took note of league 1/2 play off final attendances over the years, especially the clubs similar size to us and they usually sell between 15-20k. A week to sort tickets, travel, etc is not a long time at all so anything over 15k is decent.
I didn’t feel that at all at Chesterfield. Lots of nerves for sure, all around, but it didn’t feel flat. The connection between players and fans felt real enough and the scenes when we scored indicated such a release of tension and a state of relief/renewal/possibility. It felt like we were starting over and knew there was no way out but through this. For me and those around me it was a million miles from a pre-season friendly.
Of course, I accept the damage that has been done, and so many mates who could have gone didn’t. But I felt a recognition that if, after everything this young team has been through this last 3 months, they could respond positively (as they did), that would be monumental. We have so few teams in our long history that have achieved promotion or the play offs. I feel like that was recognised, albeit maybe not consciously, and some form of hope rekindled.
I’m talking about before the match.
This was some totting up that I did at the beginning of April:
The maximum capacity of the away end is 1790 made up of Blocks:
7 -334; 8 -210; 9 -352; 10 -350; 11 -210; 12 -352
Around the corner in the family stand there’s: Blocks: I -123; H -316; G -298. Making a total of 757, and a potential grand total of 2,527 for visitors.
The closest to their 1,116 allocation, I can get is the 3 blocks of the family stand plus block 7 of the away end. That would leave block F of the family and blocks 8 and 9 of the away end for segregation. Block 9 could be released, therefore for an extra 352 Saddlers, if needed.
The club confirmed they have allocated block 7 and 8 of the away stand to Chesterfield. The rest of their allocation is in the family stand.
Yep 30k went mate.
I thought it was about 18k in cardiff and then broke the 30k in that terrible game against Bristol city. I think it would be in between the 2. A boout 23k. I think wimbledon could take more than 24k and Notts about the same as us or a bit less
Exactly
3 stands are basically sold out
All be gone before saturday
Losing a 2 nil lead at home would pale in insignificance to losing a 12 point lead at the top of the league.
We have form in the losing a lead regard. I am rightly concerned.
Friday…
710 left
Good point hope i dont forget that come friday haha
I’m betting on tommy going down(injured ) in the 10th minute
Football has moved on from those days. Almost everyone gets more than they did in years gone by, so if this town is serious about having a competitive football club, they need to get their arses down to the Bezzla.
15k max would be my guess. Expensive day out for a neutral, especially on a Bonk Holiday.
As I replied to some Chesterfield fan on Facebook taking the piss and giving it the big’n. Chesterfield struggled to get 3k when I started going to Walsall.
They haven’t had an owner strangling the life out of their club for 30 years, with no interest in growth as long as we were kept on life support to pay for his pension.
See where we are in ten years, it could be better.
Thanks. Of course it doesn’t have to be whole blocks allocated. Probably I, J and part of G
I cant see it being that low to be honest with you !. 15k for a play off final would be really embarrassing
No it wouldn’t. Much rather 15k proper supporters than 30k with half only there for the day out.
