We need to make sure that if they get it then we ramp the noise if anything.
If they’re one nil up at half time we’re still right on top of the tie.
Those of us with long enough memories will remember goals by Dean Yates and Graham Kavanagh in not dissimilar circumstances. And those ties turned out ok.
Cook said in his presser that we had got on the backs of the team (and he couldn’t understand it) - he’s purely and predictably, trying to stoke the fire in his players with that comment (in relation for a first goal etc…)
I reckon we’ve been generally great in games where we’ve conceded (with the possible exception of a few games heading towards the end of the season when frustrations were highest etc)… so if (and let’s hope they don’t) get an early goal, I’m confident the response from the stands will be awesome as it was earlier in the season..
Everyone saying they are looking forward to Friday. I’m really not. It feels nice and safe as it is, 2-0 up and nothing can touch that right now. Then it kicks off on Friday, and we are in danger. My anxiety is through the roof.
Not made any better by a conversation with my oldest lad yesterday. He doesn’t open up much, he said to me " It could be the best or worst day of my life" Which is great, him and his brother are beyond the point of no return as Walsall fans now, but bloody hell, I feel like I am carrying the weight of 18 years with no promotion, and all of my boys expectations, hopes and fears, which weighs even heavier. I thought it would be over now after Sunday, but no we decided to be a football team again.
I hope the season ends on the 26th of May with promotion, but I tell you I am going to enjoy the break from the football, it has been exhausting to say the least.
it’s been a rollercoaster that’s for sure. We’ve moaned for years we just want something to shout about and now we’ve got it we want it to end and have a break haha. Win Friday and I believe Sadler on another 1 of his mad runs and the final will be nailed on
Not happy clapping but we’ve just got to try and stay positive haven’t we?
At 2-0 up yeah of course we feel we’ve got the tie to lose but I’d rather be in our position than theirs
Watched the Sheff Utd v Bristol game last night and thought how comfortable Utd looked with the 3-0 cushion, even though City started really well - I know ours is quite different at 2-0 but we’ve got to be positive in our approach on Friday - anything other than that and they have an opportunity to expose it…
Its HT and we lead 2-0 so the tie is not over. There is work to be done and, as others have said, the next goal is vital. If we get it we should be fine but if Chesterfield get it then it will be a difficult game. I think the fans have an even more important part to play if the latter happens…our support could be the decisive factor. UTS
I always think that it’s much more than HT. It’s far less likely that a team comes back from a two goal deficit in a game, compared with having a number of days to work on a plan to put things right.
Yeah 100%. I think their ideal plan is switch us round at kick off so they’re attacking towards their fans in the first-half and just throw everything at us to get that first goal. If we can get through the first 45 then there should be opportunities for us on the break, but it’s going to a nervy night for sure.
George Hall with his pace could be key for us on the counter attack.
I think this is extremely wishful thinking. I agree it would be nice, I just can’t see that happening. We simply have to score the first goal, or avoid one being scored at all by either side. A Chesterfield goal and there will be some extremely nervous and dare I say resigned Walsall fans knocking about, and more importantly, probably on the pitch.
Over the years, 2-0 has often been a dangerous score for us. However, in the last few games we seem to be steadier at the back. We no longer have the potency up front, though, to fire back if we concede.
Everything to play for.
I think there are a couple of additional blocks we could open.
Block A in the Family stand and block 9 in the away end. Takes it up to around 1,350 if needed.
By my reckoning (and I haven’t been counting dots!!), 1,000 away fans equals the two big blocks and the small block in the family stand and the first block round the corner in the away end. So by opening block 9 there would still be a stadium exit and a whole big block acting as segregation at the away end and a whole big block acting as segregation in the family stand.
I remember the Preston game where we were 2-0 up from the first leg. The atmosphere was intense, but subdued because most people were so nervous.
It all came to life in stoppage time when we knew we were going to Wembley
