Chunkster Prediction League 2 - 2025-26 - Intro & Table Updates

Good evening everyone! We are just under a week away from the new football league campaign and yet another attempt to see if we can get ourselves up and out of the depths of League 2! After the debacle of the 2nd half of last season (twitch, twitch), it has been very hard to be motivated by football over the past couple of months and, personally, I have tried to switch off and been enjoying other sports such as the golf, cricket and darts!

But, here we are again, getting ourselves prepped for a new season - take a deep breath. There have been some interesting signings, a high number of (expected in the main) departures, 1 or 2 non-departures (maybe wished or hoped for!), a fans’ forum, a new kit or 3 unveiled…so here we go again!!

Anyway, let’s move on and introduce a new season’s prediction league. Last year saw a close contest between a lot of predictors, even if the top few were always that little bit ahead! The lead changing hands a good few times and no one really running away with it - just as we like to see!
In the end, Shrewsbury-Saddler held on to win for the second year in a row!! The question is, can he make it 3 in a row?!!

What we want is a good, fair and fun contest! Good sportsmanship being shown throughout, but there’s always room for some banter and antics, especially if the painful torture of League 2 football week in week out, drives us to despair!!

For those who haven’t played before or are new to UTS, here is what you do (if you want to take part):

  1. Choose 3 of the games from the game week post, that has the set of fixtures on, and predict their result and scoreline;
  2. You score 2 points if you get the exact scoreline correct and 1 point if you get the result correct but not the scoreline (e.g. you predict Walsall 0 v 7 Barnet but it actually ends up 0 v 5). So you are playing for 6 points each week.
  3. After the games are finished, a table is created and updated on a weekly basis to show how people are doing.
  4. There are weekly winners announced and we keep track of how many weekly wins there are for people across the season alongside the overall winner with most points accumulated.
  5. If games get postponed, you can either change your predictions or I will keep a record of p-p games so that any points can be awarded after the re-arranged game is played.
  6. If a game week ends up with less than 6 games taking place due to postponements, then it will be voided and that game week carries over to the next round of matches.
  7. There should be 46 game weeks but may adjust depending on point 6 above.
  8. Anyone who misses the start of the season / first few games is still more than welcome to join in the fun! The ‘window’ doesn’t close with the first games of the season and who knows, we may be desperate for some ‘signings’ to join us as we go!

Key Rules:

  1. You must have the predictions in before the kick off of the games chosen otherwise they are void.
  2. If you miss some games (for example at 3pm but there are 2 games at 5.30 kick off) you can still predict the later games.
  3. If someone doesn’t predict for 5 game weeks in a row, they will be taken off the table, but can join back in again and will be re-instated into the table if so.
  4. If you mis-copy games so the teams are wrong then they will be void as well (if you can’t get that right then tough luck!)
  5. Predictions can be PMd to me if you would rather avoid any skullduggery from certain people ‘copying’ predictions, although we are all big girls and boys so shouldn’t need this really!!
  6. Some fun banter and predictor sledging is permitted and all part of the friendly yet competitive edge to proceedings but keep it decent and resist too much self promotion or adulation - remember pride comes before a fall and you’ll just end up looking a bit of a wally!!

Here is the final table from last season so you can study form and who to look out for in the race for this season’s title!

MODS - please can one of you create a Prediction League 2025-26 folder and move this thread across to it? I don’t have the power!!

Last 3 seasons I’ve finished 23rd, then 14th then 6th. This is definitely incremental progress. Hope I can improve again!

Maybe get some of that Coors pish you drink in The Railway. You’ll have a clear head when you make your selections

Yeah, but will his predictions also leave a bad taste in his mouth?

Wonder who’s picks @matt_saddlesore will be copying this season?

Steady! Remember it’s not a straight line. Uncle Leigh says so.

Can we call this league The Chunkster Prediction League? I recall he hardly missed a prediction week and was always involved in the banter.

That is a great idea mate and would serve as a good memory to him who, as you say, rarely missed a prediction week over the years :+1:

Here is the first table for the new prediction league season, now aptly named in honour of Chunkster, a UTS legend! :+1:

It was an interesting first week, with the pre-season fancied teams not tearing out of the gate and so a pretty low-scoring set of scores. It is great to see so many new people joining in the fun, and I think a record 56 people taking part in this first week. Here’s hoping that people stick around and don’t disappear in the second half of the season, like a certain team did last year!:man_facepalming::laughing:

In this first prediction week, we have two weekly winners, with a score of 4 points - well done to RobHarv3y and JoaquinErnesto! :+1:
They are the early pacesetters but, if last season is anything to go by, when EVERY single predictor won at least 1 week, it is a very open competition, and there is a long way to go!

Next weekend’s games will be up shortly for you to get your predictions in for.
