Connor Barrett Signs - 3 year deal

Jellis is another one who may well attract attention from teams above. He isn’t quite there yet but has all the ingredients, with his work rate, football intelligence and also has some good technical ability.

I was actually a bit blasé celebrating that header. It felt by then like, however many Watford scored, we’d just come back and score again.

He actually started out at left back in the 70s. I think he moved across when Kenny Mower established himself in the team. And thinking about it, when Macken was released in about 82.

Has similar attributes to Edwards imo. Gets around the pitch but also better technically than many think, wonderful strike.

Probably shouldn’t be a shock as he was a big part of Tamworth’s recent rise and they’re currently top half in the National league and in 1st round of FA cup so not a big step up to L2.

Last season he was seemingly injured as soon as he signed so was just a settling in period.

It’s interesting that Williams, Jellis and Barrett were not only non-league but 2 divisions below us 2 years ago.

Our right flank has been a weakness in recent years but with Jellis and Barrett, with Adomah and possibly Hall on the bench, it is a super strength.

Byfield against Fulham after we’d won at Charlton in the fourth. Also The Buck at Arsenal. We drew a blank against Huddersfield in the 30s and also against Sheff Utd in 2003.

I’ll take your word on it mate. Can only go by what i saw from my first Walsall game back in Dec 83. What a pair of full backs Kenny and Cas were

Maybe now, seeing what Barrett brings to the position, some may be able to see why I was never that taken with Liam Bennet….

Just cause Barrett is pure class doesn’t mean bennett wasn’t good x

No but it does show there are levels to that and variety to his play, quality of end product, intelligence to decision making that highlights that my thoughts on one being overrated are a little more evident now….and being overrated isn’t the same as not being very good….

Or flogging a dead horse?

Would still take Bennett for next season if the current positions of the respective clubs are still the same in May.

Well if we manage to keep Barrett, and Albert doesn’t decide to retire and collect his pension, that would probably leave Bennett as 3rd choice RWB and struggling to even make the bench never mind get in the starting lineup. Personally I wouldn’t say no, but can’t see him saying yes in those circumstances if he wants to progress his career.

The quality of the floated cross from Barrett for our first goal at Grimsby and the ball/manoeuvre for the last goal to put Hall through were superb.

If anyone hasn’t yet watched the highlights for the Grimsby game, then I suggest you do!

Would love to see Liam Bennett back at Walsall. He did a job at lwb last time too and I can see him
Definitely getting game time even if we keep hold of Conner Liam and Uncle Albert.

You would think there will be clubs sniffing around Barrett in January for sure . Yes he is on a 3 year deal which gives us some security but we know we historically sell and don’t play hardball .

In today’s market interesting what a good fee would be ?

Clearly he would be worth a lot more if we were in league one !!
