D 0-0 vs Alfreton Town (A) - FA Cup Second Round - Tue 5th Dec, 7:45pm

According to Sadler, yes.

A goal is a goal at the end of the day and it prevented us from winning the game.

I think the Priest and Captain Fantastic are more than capable to play in a 2, going back to a 3 is for me a backwards step pardon the pun. We would need to sacrifice a player in a more forward position to accommodate a back 3 albeit pushing the full backs up to wing backs. Goals have dried up somewhat and we can’t control games from midfield, I think 5-3-2 is regressive.

The very fact that we’re bemoaning a goalie clanger being disallowed as one of the prevailing factors for us not winning is mad when you think about it - they’re part timers, we should be sticking 4 and 5 past these guys really!

I don’t disagree with your point, but the very fact that your point is valid is quite upsetting in the grand scheme of things

No it didn’t. It prevented us from taking the lead. This is obviously favourable but it does not mean we would have gone on to win the game.

Knowles was one of our better players yesterday he impressed me in spurts , he was a lot more effective than hutch for a change

Knowles is a difficult player he frustrates the hell out of me but i cant dislike him because he gives 100% everytime he steps on to the pitch and trys his hardest.

Ive said few weeks back Tom is a player who has the potential but hes getting to an age now where it needs too be unlocked soon , i agree with his confidence is shot you can see it in his game with some of the decisions he makes and the frustration he shows when something doesnt come off

We’ve had a few refereeing decisions go against us in the last few weeks, it’s certainly not helping at all.

Putting aside all of the angst about disappearing down the tunnel and a lack of respect, Sadler’s attitude, him wanting the game postponed etc., etc., as for the performance itself it’s mystifying just how bad we have become.

I disagree with some posters who say that the squad is not good enough. For this division it is, we have some good players but we are not the sum of their parts.

I saw one post suggesting that Freddy has gone backwards since his injury. No! He is suffering from and experiencing exactly the same lack of creativity that DJT did against Harrogate, DJ did in the second half of the same game and again at Barrow. Someone said a few threads ago that even Haaland wouldn’t score in this team - there’s something in that.

Keown put his finger on it when he observed that we give the ball away endlessly and regularly by-pass our better players by continually hoofing it upfield to no one in particular. We have stopped getting the ball down and playing football.

The system and tactics are all wrong at the moment and need to change. Why can’t Saddler see it…or Waddock whose job it is to help him?

Didnt say freddie has gone backwards merely stated he doesnt SEEM the same player whether thats match fitness , tactics , confidence :man_shrugging:

Stating the obvious, we badly need a win.

All this, “It’ll come” baloney is very smarmy but I suppose patience is important.

For me, the next few games are all winnable:
Notts County’s defence is poor.
On a flat, bigger pitch, with DJ fit, we should beat Alfreton.
Tranmere are in a dogfight but if you can’t win your home games against teams like them, you don’t deserve to stay up.

For me, 2 wins is the minimum expectation.
Anything less, they don’t deserve to keep their jobs and the new manager can be given the January transfer window.

On a separate note, I’d take a look at Adam Lund because if we did take the Cheltenham approach to moving up the table, he could be the equivalent of Ben Tozer.

And I know that we have Maher but if Tierney went back to Motherwell, the boy Lewis Salmon looked a prospect on the wing.

Maybe we can get more out of Alfreton than we first thought…

I liked the look of cantrill number 8 old school midfielder in the mould of robbie savage uses the dark arts but acts innocent enough not to get picked up by the ref  and still only 24

This almost mirrored my own journey with WFC, I virtually gave up over the last 10yrs or so when it became apparent ( to me ) that our club was sliding into oblivion, no fight, no heart, no passion, run by complete amateurs that allowed their shocking lack of football nous to infest itself at all levels within the club. We became and have become the “ the easy, soft “ team everyone loves to play especially the teams that have been on horrendous losing streaks, not scoring for months, or just the crap ones that only have one man and his dog as supporters. Oh almost forgot our fantastic form regarding Tuesday evening fixtures !! Everything about the club has disintegrated into a shambolic state of affairs, we never speculate to accumulate, our recruitment regarding players is generally very poor with the odd exceptions, we don’t appear to pay the going rate to attract better quality wether its players, backroom staff or football technically skilled advisors. What we do well is to keep amateurs in key roles it’s no wonder we find ourselves where we are ! As I’ve stated many times I’m not a regular attender, I go to a number of games a season and a few aways, it’s all I can stand, the football is dire , lack of passion, lack of pride, disregard of fans, match day experience, lack of attention to detail, small things , have some bloody pride about who we are, I ain’t asking for promotion year on year ( we can all dream ) but show some ambition if only for the next generation of fans before we completely lose them, they are the blood that runs through the arteries of our clubs heart to keep it beating. For christs sake please perform the necessary surgery to keep the heart healthy and more fans will return including me on a more regular basis, it’s still my club don’t take it away from me.

Id take it more if it wasnt a fluke either, its great corner right on the goalies head but he isn’t trying to score.

Im more bothered about other chances we missed.

I know hes a CB but Farq put a nice chance when it dropped to him in literally a different time zone, and Hutch did the same. Really atrocious.

It is true that our shooting has been dreadful and not just yesterday. I am all for players being encouraged to shoot but they do need to keep the ball in the ground.

Worth mentioning on here replay tickets already on sale, discounted price of £15 adults. Even with that pricing think it will be a sub 4,000 audience for the return game.

I got mine this afternoon.

That wouldn’t be enough to make me attend. I’d have to charge my tutoring rate to inflict that horror on myself

A sub 400 audience is what they deserve

Not sure how many Alfreton will bring.

Could be below 3000 if they only bring a coach load. I’d imagine they will bring a few so I’ll go 3200.

Beats the likely first game of next season. Wealdstone at home in the National League. For a distance game (north of Watford) average away attendance is about 23 :joy:
