I would play Evans when fit. Smith is very promising and his time will come. A lot is being made of their distribution ability. I agree Smith is better at that but the primary job of a goalie is to keep the ball out of the net.Evans in my opinion is slightly better at that.
Same for Johnson?

Yep, on BBC Black Country DAB which can’t be received in Burntwood and parts of Brownhills. Hopefully they’ll do their usual updates on FM.

I was disappointed to see Evans start, but thinking about it, Gillingham have just signed a giant striker and one of the best crossers of the ball in the division.
Given that Smith’s big weakness is claiming crosses and imposing himself, Evans actually might be the safer choice today.

He does need to speed up his distrubtion but there were are least a couple of occasions, last week, the crowd got on his back even though he had no options.
Evans shaves it for me because he has safer handing, but I wouldnt be traumatised if Smith played.
I cannot get either in Walsall …very annoying.

Not playing though or even on subs bench.
Their tactic does seem to be crossing/headers though from what I’ve seen of the game so far.
We appear to be “giving it a go” … with 7 shots and 4 corners in the first 10 minutes.
Nothing on target though…
