Exactly. We, and our opponents get away with it way more often than not, but when they don’t, you just have to accept it.
It’s a grey area, but sometimes, like yesterday, or Clarke’s at Sutton, or the Crawley bloke that got sent off when he hauled DJ down its just thick.
I could actually do with having mine redone but waiting till i’ve had all the windows changed, any chance if I were to miss a home game or two you could call round and maybe give me a hand please?
That’s disappointing thought i was working out who was, now I’ve got to go back to square one
If by a miracle we make the play offs and we end up at Wembley I’d be worried as it’s never an easy place to go to…
Based on our extensive record anyway.
Whether we get them is entirely on what grade of ref is on display. White is a walking disaster. No clever nuance like Norman or Clarke. We dont get them because Knowles has pissed the ref off by then.
Youve answered yourself with that. Stupid White again. Poor from Kinsella then they had a big call for a third. We should have them but the refs are so poor that its a lucky dip. Whites stupidity gave them momentum when the game was sorted.
Tbf it could be worse.
We could be watching the modern YouTuber boxing craze instead
“Stupid White” but “poor from Kinsella”??? I have no idea why White was getting involved in tussling with the forward because there was no need to really. But the Kinsella one is the most “stupid” of the lot. One job to do, doesn’t do it, stumbles all over the back of his man who still had a lot to do to cause any significant danger, at a point in the game where we just needed a bit of calm to see out a win.
The choice of language for anything any other player does over Kinsella is always quite funny
I posed a point on twitter yesterday and I reckon I’d be correct.
I honestly think most Walsall fans would say Kinsella has had a better season than Hutchinson. It’s bonkers. One is a gifted creative player who has scored and assisted this season, the other is a bog standard league two player - but all the plaudits would go to Kins
It’s Romaine Sawyers all over again.
For balance, I will say that Kinsella has had a good season and I appreciate what he brings to the team, but, as you say, the choice of language is very revealing. “Stupid” for White, “poor” for Kinsella and yet both have been part of an extremely good defensive record this season and Flynn trusts both of them to do the job asked of them.
If you go right back up the thread, you will see that, when the team was announced, everyone said that it was defensive and playing for the 0-0 draw. In fact, we had a decent attacking display, scored 3 and unluckily hit the bar. That’s how much we all know.
And, as usual, when something goes wrong, it will all be fixed by dropping Hayden White. Yes, he should not have touched the guy and it was an error. But he and the other defenders, on both sides, do that kind of thing all the time.
I was disappointed by the result after the performance but it is much more depressing to read some of the posts on the thread.
I think it was as much to do with how shockingly poor Hartlepool were tbh.
And then how shockingly poor WE were in letting a 3-1 lead slip to a 3-3 draw, all in injury time! Diabolically bad, we are, and will remain the epitome of a mediocre 4th Division mid table squad, consistently inconsistent. We can’t buy a win currently, even if we could our board would not pay!
On to next season ad-infinitum.
This is why it’s always better to take a breath before commenting and take the heat out of the moment before providing any analysis. There were plenty who seemed to be inferring right after the game that Flynn should be on his bike, I am sure some of those people would maybe think differently a couple of days after the game, only the players can take ownership for the shambolic last 5 minutes. I think Flynn has improved us despite the recent poor run and should at least get the opportunity of another summer transfer window to weed out those players who haven’t got the right mentality and desire to be putting Walsall Football Club in the upper echelons of this league.
Flynn is a good manager and a good man. We are a 4th division club. We have no right to be any higher. We have little chance of attracting “top” managers, whoever they may be. We are in a similar situation now, in the 4th division, to what dean smith found himself in a division higher. We have a manager who has improved things and turned around a losing mentality that permeated the club into one that at least avoida defeat. On that basis, having only just been here a year, we should be giving him the whole of next season and, as long as it sewms the club is again making some forward progress, another summer to tweak the squad and really challenge in 24/25, if we haven’t already made the playoffs or been promoted next season.
Another unpopular opinion: I don’t think we are actually really much better than under Darrell Clarke.
Same type of football, same quality of players, about same level of performance in the league.
I’d agree with you there. Clarke was here for a season and a half, so a little longer than Flynn.I’d expect he would have had us at least up around the playoffs by now, had he stayed.
And that is why we need to give Flynn the time and resources he needs, as he will get us there as well.
Both are good managers at this level.
Yep they are second/third bottom for a reason.
Hopefully be good attacking v Swindon who’ve picked up lately. Top 7 is gone but at least have a decent end to the season with some good home wins.
Fully agree. I think the Hartlepool game is probably the lowest point of this season, so as a source of comparison it’s probably this seasons Scunthorpe away, and if you compare the two performances generally there was much more to boe positive about Saturday however the game ultimately turned out compared to Scnthorpe a year ago. I said on the other thread personally we should give Flynn or any manager we appoint and believe in 3 years. Now of course like last season under Taylor if we show serious signs of regression we may be forced to make a change but overall there has been solid if not spectacular progress under Flynn, he doesn’t suffer fools gladly and he will be fuming at the last 5 minutes, I think it is an issue with mentality and character with certain players but he will weed them out and they will be on their way in the summer. After a huge turnaround of players last summer we really don’t need the same thing to happen this summer, there’s a decent core to work with although we are short on quality in some obvious areas and I think we need a few more leaders and winners in some positions as much as footballing ability. A summer of recruitment focusing on quality rather than quantity like last summer and I think we can be a force next season, worst thing we could do is get rid of Flynn and be back to square one with another upheaval.
There are quite a few similarities for me.
Both sides built on being workmanlike and ‘giving it all’, both sides had terrible attacking intent, large periods of 3 at the back, boring football. Further:
Under Clarke: We lost Adebayo in January.
Under Flynn: We lost DJ in January.
I honestly don’t really see much of a difference between the type of football being played, league position, and general quality of the players.
But… at least for me, this season was always a free hit - I would be happy with clear signs of progression. I think we have seen some shoots of that throughout the season, but the last 2 months have been really disappointing.
