Debating Walsall's play-off hopes

If either side wins we will be 7th, if it’s a draw we’ll be 8th (on goal difference).

Seems a bit cheeky discussing play off opponents, counting chickens and all that, but would probably prefer to play Crewe over 2 legs rather Mk Dons.

Of course lots can change between now and end of season.

Crewe yes. Get our revenge for the 92-93 season play off horror show

Although arguably a draw would be the best result for us as it would mean that both of them drop 2 points

I’d go for Barrow, Crawley, Mansfield and Grimsby wins tonight as my preferred options. That puts Gillingham down a bit, then we just have to beat Barrow next week…

Ok massively getting ahead of myself here but with on paper 2 very winnable games coming up does anyone know what the clubs record is for consecutive wins is ? With a fair wind and a stroke of luck we will be on 7 and I cannot remember a run like that before.

Obviously this is all irrelevant when we go a loose to FGR on Saturday … it’s just how Walsall roll !

Yeah we were talking about it on another thread, I think it is the Forest Green thread.

7 In a row, 1959, and 2005. 1959 before my time, but 2005 was under Merson. Won the last 5 of 2004/2005, and the first 2 of 2005/2006.

Keeping everything crossed that we dont do the typical Walsall thing and lose to the turf munchers on Saturday.

Yeah, always a worry. They have picked up a bit too, haven’t they?

Still, fancy us against anyone at the moment, big opportunity there for us.

With the form we are in, there should be no one to worry us until we face franchise but as we all know football is not that simple. To be honest if we got 4 points out of the next 2 then I would be chuffed.

Two league wins since the 28th October

Isn’t that a guarantee for a home win when playing us though? :joy:

Why so pessimistic? We can make it a proper record winning run of 16 in a row by the end of the season! Giving us 87 points! Not sure it’ll be enough to overhaul Mansfield though, as they’re on target for 89.

It’s the hope that kills you ! Many years following the Saddlers and I guess I have just got used to them effin it up

Realistically we need 5-6 more wins and on paper the majority of those should come in the next few matches. However to do that we will need to break the club record … it just seems mad to even think that I could see a Walsall side win 7+ games on the trot.

Not to say it can’t be done though but I am sure this team will be giving it everything regardless

For the first time in many years we have the manager getting the best out of the players, we have a team giving their all for him and we have the supporters right behind them.
If we can beat Wrexham, Mansfield and Doncaster who were on a decent run themselves we can beat any of the teams we still have to face.
I know we can come unstuck but somehow it feels like the players absolutely believe they can do it (playoffs). All we need to do is stick together.

Making the play offs this season would be a tremendous achievement, automatic promotion would require a Bristol Rovers type of run for us to achieve that. Impossible, no. Unlikely, yes.
Whilst I have belief in this team I’m not sure I have enough belief for us to make the automatic promotion places, it’s a big ask. I truly hope I’m wrong.
We’ve played a lot of games at home lately and have truly made it a fortress where teams coming here will have a little fear facing us.
We need to have that same mentality away from home. There’s some tough games coming up in the next few weeks those games will make us or break us, it’s going to be exciting to watch…I can’t wait!

Hopefully with a big Following at FGR Saturday we can all get behind the team and make it feel like a home game .

None of the results exactly went our way tonight although our chances of finishing in the playoffs are about the same as they were. Basically, it’s in our own hands. Have a good run in and we should be there. No guarantees.
Crewe and MKD look odds on for the playoffs and the last two berths could be filled by any of at least 6 teams. It’s going to be tight and will probably go down to the last couple of games. We have the belief and the momentum. Let’s just hope it stays that way.
UTS!
