I think the fan base is incredibly supportive of him. Good interaction with him at Tranmere and Doncaster. Yesterday even at 3-1 down and down to ten we were getting behind his team.
I’ve seen nothing but support at matches to be honest.
It was largely a generalisation based on socials and on here, rather than at games necessarily……of course there are lots of balanced views and some support even in tough times but the loudest noise is generally from those that have always wanted him out.
Ok. So it’s stuff on the internet rather than real life.
If he chooses his career path based upon what’s written on the internet he probably shouldn’t be involved in professional football because wherever he goes and whatever he achieves it’ll be no better and in some cases a hell of a lot worse elsewhere.
I’ve seen Liverpool “fans” giving Klopp dogs abuse online. I’ve seen the same with Pep at City and the radio station that is trolling in wireless form - Talksport- also entertains calls from people with similarly interesting views.
Sadler should take the temperature of fan feeling from his live interaction. If he turns to the internet for that temperature check then he’s a silly billy. He might also start believing that the earth is flat and Paul Mcartney died in 1966.
That’s a little pedantic but you know that. You also know and most likely agree with my point, which is for a large portion of our fanbase Sadler is on a loser no matter how many good spells he has these people will always jump on the first poor result he has whether that be vocally at games or on social media.
The voice of these people will always be louder than those in support.
I dont think Sadler is in any doubt as to the fan feeling every time we’re in a losing position at half time or full time because the minority who often make the most noise are doing so.
I’m pretty sure he won’t be reading social media for any purpose whatsoever and certainly not the cesspit that X has become.
I know a few fans who go home and away who’s mind won’t be changed with Sadler whatever he does I’m still indifferent myself but he deserves a chance next season to see what he can do.
Every single club has toxic people on their socials directing ridiculous stuff at the club or individual players so while it’s wrong it’s not an outlier metric to judge in 2024.
The feeling in the ground is much better than a few years ago at least so that’s something to continue building on for next season.
Next to no chance he’s had a harder time than Whitney has from the fanbase. And while in 18-19 the abuse wasn’t directed at Keates much due to his legendary status as a player Bonser was still owning the club then so atmosphere quickly got negative when losing runs happened.
Now I think people are just bored with mid table league 2 so the last three months is at least a straw to grasp for something better around the corner.
Recruitment is absolutely key for me too. We have a good, honest group already tied down to next season and a toi g group at that so I think it’s reasonable to expect some improvement from within. However we need some quality in key areas to support what we already have and for the first time in many years we’re not looking at needing to bring in double figures of new players so we can be really focused on the quality of player we bring in. Whilst I can’t agree with Walsall Fan TV Jnr in looking at Hayden White returning we do need to make sure that key areas are covered with quality additions.
Not for me Clive, but there are some fans who would like to see just that. It’s a regressive step for me no matter how good our defence was for much of last season when he played, it’s an area we are already well stocked in.
I too agree he shouldn’t come back, but I actually think he could do/ have done a role as a RWB as his crossing was ok (see assist away at scunthorpe couple of years back) and his defensive limitations are less exposed with 5 at the back.
But we have Knowles and Foulkes who I’m happy with, so as I say he shouldn’t come back.
A proper RWB. The start of the season Foulkes was shoehorned in there despite playing the last two seasons at Kiddy in a back 4 so there were teething problems and he struggled.
Looked better last night but this season spent too much time trying to get Knowles effective in that position.
Sign a specialist for that position.
Do not under any circumstances play McEntee in central midfield again.
His home is in the backline. A combination of him, Daniels and Taylor Allen looks already very good and that’s without Farq staying fitter and hopefully playing more. Or Dave being signed so that is a terrific base to start next year with if Sadler realises there were too many games with lack of control with McEntee running all over the place in the 8 position. McEntee can also chip in with his 4-5 goals a season from set pieces given how incredible the corner delivery is now.
Striker who actually stays the whole season.
That is ideally Faal. Offer West Brom 200-300k with 15-20% sell on and see what they say. He scores 15-20 next season and then does o.k in league 1 and straight away he’s a 3-4m asset if not more. Peterborough have perfected this model for last 20 years so up to Trivela to show their hand.
I would certainly give Sadler credit as unlike Clarke and Flynn he adapted from losing the main CF in January and the results have arguably been better. Clarke resigned a week after Adebayo was sold and Flynn had that horrendous run after DJ was recalled so that’s one of the big pluses of Sadler’s first season.
