Probably some other options too, but found this:
My head tells me we’re going to be on the end of a bit of a hammering and a loss in confidence.
My heart tells me it’s a game we’ll be right up for and grab a 2-1 win.
What have we to do to turn this run around?
Defensively and at wing back we are OK, but midfield and upfront we lack ideas and creativity.
Matt does what Matt does, but the 3 midfield and other striker positions are up for grabs.
DJ did little of Saturday apart from chase long balls.
Stirk did well defensively but rarely played a forward ball.
Lakin and Jellis offered very little in the opponents half. Apart from the fullbacks, did anyone carry the ball forward in the Wimbledon half.
Levi’s control leaves much to be desired, but at least he ran at the defense.
Who do we select to make us more threatening?
Should we leave out Lakin and Jellis and play Hall and Chang?
Might we be better off moving McEntee (and Allen) into midfield as they at carry the ball forward?
Should we play Jellis behind the front 2 and play Stirk and Comley as holding midfielders?
Perhaps start Levi and Matt, but who comes on when they tire?
Yep, another bang average team that somehow have a chance of promotion from this awful league. They havn’t beaten anyone from the entire top half of the league at home this season, and seem susceptible to a bit of pace on the counter attack, which is what we are supposed to be about. If we approach this with a positive mindset its a great opportunity, pick the same midfield again and play hoof ball to Matt and it will be a long evening. Would like to see Chang and Hall at least given a half each - what a fantastic option that is at this level. If we’re looking to have a pacey option up front then maybe Wheatley would be an idea if he’s over the Tom Tits. A rested Barrett will be good to see also. I’m very optimistic IF we go for it, we will turn these over.
My team would be:
Hornby
McEntee Williams Allen
Asiimwe Chang Stirk Hall Gordon
Wheatley Levi
It won’t be though. I suspect the same team - with Wheatley in for DJ.
I like that team Thanatos. Jamma needs a rest.
I remember him and Jellis coming off the bench to win us the game at Notts - Sadler needs to rotate the starting 11 more - but as we all know he has his favourites and tends not to budge.
I’d be tempted to bring in DD for McEntee too.
With Simpkin on the bench that would make 5 loans in the 18 - are we allowed that many?
Which unfortunately isn’t a lot at the moment.
I’m not trying to knock the bloke, he has contributed a lot this season. Right now he isn’t playing well at all. Not only that, him being on the pitch dictates how we play. I doubt Levi would have had the opportunities to run at the defence had he been partnered next to Matt.
To me, Matt doesn’t win enough of the tussles, or hold the ball up well enough for us to build our playing style around him.
The rumour is that Wheatley has COVID, else I think he would have played on Saturday.
A little noteworthy stat.
donny have failed to beat any team this season at home placed higher than 11th in the table🤔
Have a look at our stat for the last time we won away on a Tuesday night too
i think it was port vale away in november 2021
Is Josh Gordan available for this game. He could make a massive difference to the front line. His hard running might get us up the pitch more.
Can you pay on the night? I’ve made a last(ish) minute decision to go but prefer not to have to go to the Bezla to pick up a ticket.
I rang the ticket office morning to get mine mate and I’m collecting at Doncaster. They usually have a booth near the away end for all the collections.
3-1 Doncaster.
Sod it, i’ll go Taylor Allen again for us.
He just hasn’t got the range anymore!!
Was the win under Flynn at Donny a Friday or something? We played well that day
Yes, I think Hutch/Knowles/DJ ripped them apart !?
Somethings will never change, that’s just the way it is.
If we turn up with confidence we are well capable of a win…not all of our ‘rivals’ at the top are that great…Bradford were absolute rubbish at Accy on Saturday.
2-1 to the Saddlers.
