Drogheda Cup Final

I am currently watching the Irish FA Cup Final (on RTE 2) and a certain Douglas James-Taylor has just put Drogheda 2-0 ahead against Derry City from the penalty spot. It would be good if he could bring a winner’s medal back to Bescot. Attendance 38,723.

Do you think that WFC see him as a replacement if Stoke recall Lowe?

Not if we want to win promotion, no.

… and Drogheda deservedly win It! They qualify for European football, next seasonl

Yet, for all that, they face a relegation play-off on Saturday!?!

It doesn’t matter. When he sees himself in the next few or more seasons. Big decision to make. Bigger money in England, or bigger honours in Ireland?

FYI final been discussed on Drogheda thread :+1:

Let’s be realistic he was awful when he played for us. When he appeared as a second half sub his arrival used to suck what little atmosphere there was out of the stadium. He couldn’t trap a bag of cement and his finishing was woeful.
I wish him every success but I think he’s found his level over there.

Unfair comparison in my eyes, DJT was woeful for us except for the goal he scored at Grimsby, but he has definitely had a new lease of life in the Drogheda team, maybe it is a lower league than what we are playing in but maybe he should be given a chance to see if he has improved on what he showed us before his loan.

Yeah, that is fair enough, if we are talking about replacing Lowe with DJT, then we are basically giving up on promotion in my eyes. DJT as a squad member is a completely different thing.

I don’t think Lowe will go back for what it’s worth.

I think that’s a bit harsh mucka. He wasn’t the bollocks, but he was OK.
Don’t think he’s a replacement for Lowe, but he’s worth another look in my opinion. He’s still got bags of potential.

DJT warrants the back half of the season as a squad player. Who are we to know how what he may have added to his game. Or how his mind set may have changed. Few sub apps. Few goals. Worth a shout.

Worth persevering with more than Gordon. He’s a good age.

He’s at Drogheda until June.

Best thing for him is to leave him there.

I am sure that someone from the club said that he would return from Drogheda in December, when his loan spell ends.

We may need him.

If Lowe is recalled by Stoke in January, then our forward options will be Jamma, DJ, the unknown quantity that is Cleary, and Flash (assuming he has recovered from his injury).
There is also the option of Adomah.

Given that Sadler like to change at least one, often 2, forwards during a game, then we need at least 4 of those in the squad, I would say 5, just to cover injuries and suspensions.

… Alternatively, we could allow for the possibility that he’s improved while he’s been on loan. You know, the whole point of sending him there.

I agree, I don’t think Lowe will go back in January, they already have Tezgel, who I assume they think is more first team ready, and he hardly makes an appearance. I suppose a glut of injuries could change that, but im hoping he stays. If we can win promotion, we may get to keep him for a further 12 months, as we will fulfill Stoke’s development requirements.

And presumably the option of another loan striker

He scored 3 goals for us in 48 appearances. I know lots of these were from the bench but this was at the time when Jamma was not fit and DJT would come on at half time, a courtesy that was rarely extended to DJ.
I don’t get the “he’s a squad player” argument. Without exception, all of the current senior squad bring something positive to the team. He rarely did.
I’m not having a pop at him- I really hope he makes a living from football, but from what I saw from him I don’t think he’s worth a place here.

If he rejoins in January then it becomes a choice between DJ and DJT forca place amongst the subs. Would prefer DJ.

Bring him back and loan him out to Solihull, which would be a step up from the Irish league.

I agree. If Lowe stays and DJT returns I can see Cleary going back as he ain’t had a look in

Unsure if I would include the returning DJT but as others have mentioned I’m not sure WBA would keep Cleary here not to even make the bench, the one thing DJT has which our forward line lacks is that bit of pace, could be useful at stretching a game when we are under the cosh.

Apart from witnessing his dismal performances for us, last season, I have seen DJT play 3 times for Drogheda, twice in “real life” and once on television. I am still not impressed but, as warsawpact said, his spell on loan at Drogheda may have boosted his confidence. I hope so as that could add to Sadler’s options. DJT has another big match for Drogheda on Saturday - a relegation/promotion play-off at home against Bray Wanderers. After that, I assume that he will return to Walsall for full-time training until Drogheda resume for the 2025 season (the Irish League is a summer league).
