Bohemians have a game in hand but with the momentum Drogheda have it’s still possible they’ll catch them.
Another tough game for them on Friday - at home to title chasing Derry who are 2nd at the moment, whilst Dundalk host Bohemians.
Of their final 4 games after that, 2 are against the other 2 out of the top 3, with their very last game being at home to Dundalk. It’s probably going to the wire.
Their last game of the season might be the Irish cup final on Sunday 10th November
If they remain where they are (at the end of the season) I assume the play the team in 2nd from the division below?
Not quite, 2nd-5th in the First Division play-off between themselves for the right to play the 9th place Premier team in the play-off final.
I’d thought exactly that - loved it over there in July.
DJT just set up a goal for Drogheda against Derry.
Edit: and again.
Listening to the game on the BBC website.
2-0 now
The could do with Dundalk getting an equaliser to bring them within 2 points of Bohemians and safety.
Oh well, maybe not, dash it…but you can’t knock Drogheda beating 2nd in league who needed an own goal to score…
Won 2-1
Djt is way to good for that level
DJT must be up there for their player of the year! Their upturn in form since his arrival is unbelievable. They might even win a trophy! Fair play to the young man. Some people want to write off young men under 22 when players often develop at different speeds. Look at his pedigree at Stoke and there was always a player there. A bit of confidence and a run of games to develop a rhythm does wonders for any player, regardless of the standard of football.
A commentator remarked that Villa’s John McGinn needs about 7 or 8 games to get match sharp because of his physique and playing style, and he’s at a Champions League club, so…
You make a very good point about how footballers develop at different speeds. Funny that ordinary people are just the same. I read somewhere on UTS that Richard O’Kelly had somehting to do with the club retaining DJT and loaning him out. ROK signed for Walsall from Alvechurch at the age of 22. He probably knows a bit more about player development than a lot of us on here. No guarantee of course but he may come good here. Certainly Weir, who came from the Drogs hasn’t disgraced himself at all so far.
Bohemians are playing Derry in their next game which is the other FAI Cup semifinal.
They then play Derry again in the league straight after.
Why is their semi-final today a 14:50 kick off? Seems an odd time.
I see that it is being screened live on RTE2, and you can stream live content direct from their website (though you might need a VPN to appear to be in Ireland if there are any locational licencing restrictions for the game).
Drogs are a goal down just before half time.
Dreadful game and Drogs offering very little going forward.
1-1
Drogheda equalise.
1-1
In fairness, they’ve applied more pressure this half and probably deserve it.
