The EFL should threaten to boycott it
This has deliberately been kept under wraps, no press leaks or warning, a bit like the initial ESL announcement, presented as a fait accompli.
It stinks, trying to say itāll benefit lower league clubs. If they thought that then why not consult them in the first place?
Iām fairly sure we did fill Bescot (or close enough) when we played Fulham in the FA Cup, was an early kick-off and on TV too if I remember rightly.
I would rather the replays stayed personally, I reckon it is probably an age thing. I donāt like all the change, a bit of a traditionalist but unfortunately things change and it is adapt and move on.
Iāve already said B teams will arrive in the football pyramid eventually. They will. No consultation on this so thereāll be no consultation on B teams either.
Canāt wait for the Walsall - Wrexham B team game !
We need the rest of the teams in the lower leagues to grow some balls, and come out with a statement condemning the decision, the same as Tranmere
I heard some ramblings of Joey Barton the other day and it did have me thinking.
His musings were that the top teams are pushing womens football so much to push their mens teams branding/ sponsors/ devaluing pundits to get more adverts in at half time and maximise exposure and revenue.
Like we all do, i think hes a bell end and there is a place for womens football and women pundits in the mens game. But there does seem like theres a squeeze on the EFL⦠The removal of replays/ the lack of prem money trickling down/ threat of B teams (already in the EFL trophy). Does make you think!
I think there should be some sort of action though.
This was the last preliminary round but remember reading about it at the time - Alvechurch v Oxford City that went to 5 replays
Iām really hoping their is significant backlash from football league and national league.
I wonāt hold my breath though, find it hard to believe nobody knew about it.
The EFL condemned it, but followed up with āand we will demand compensationā not reverse the decision.
Compensated with a brown envelope most likely.
For those harping on about more shock results due to penalties, youāve failed to take into account that itās much more likely the bigger team will win the game during extra time, on account of better fitness.
Yes Walsall town centre was dead
Bigger teams will likely play a couple of more decent players to make sure or play all the kids as they donāt care . See which clubs care or donāt then
This is what happens when commerce gets involved with sportā¦
Wouldnāt surprise me if they ditch the extra time in the next few years.
I hope Walsall issue something similar
I can see them at some point, seeding the prem clubs as the home team in the tie, so theyāll never have to travel to backwater places like Shrewsbury
Next stop is abolition of the League Cup before that happens, probably see another shot at getting Prem B teams in the EFL too.
