And thats the problem. How can we take any enjoyment from good league form knowing it could come crashing down at any point? If we are 12 points ahead in January all we will be thinking about will be how will he screw it up this time.
The club needs to exorcise this spectre of impending doom at the club. Its there, its real and we’ve all seen it.
It’s a true theoretical argument. In practice, I think getting 12 points clear at the top is unlikely to happen again for a long time, which makes the wasted opportunity more galling.
But the strategy is sign them, develop them and sell them at a profit and re-invest the profit.
I think they’ve signed Barrett’s replacement, hoping that someone will buy Barrett in January for big money. Doesn’t Barrett’s contract last another 2 years, so we need to sell him in the next 12 months.
But we’re on a tight budget and can’t expect them to put any money in whatsoever, remember. So over stocking in positions probably isn’t wise. They can’t just spend millions of pounds willy nilly you know.
How difficult can it be to find someone to hoof it in Jamma’s general direction and then sort it out when ball comes straight back time after time? At least he doesn’t have to worry about needing to learn a plan B under Sadler
I’m not sure Trivela understand this. There was never a time during games when we didn’t have a chance of promotion, even if it was a long-shot towards the end at Wembley. I suspect they don’t realise people were sitting on their anger towards Sadler while it could still happen.
And I hope they don’t think all is well because people bought shirts in big numbers. If we have even a mediocre start that dormant anger will be unleashed, all the stronger for being bottled up. Similar if we start well then begin to slip again.
Wing backs have to do endless running especially with Sadlers style. Need decent competition for both wing backs in my opinion. Barrett was fantastic till January and then looked a very different player sadly, might have been a different story if he was rested more for the EFL cup. Gordon seems to have incredible fitness but I’m sure even he would of benefited more from a break at times.
Just came across this on X from Kinetic about our new RWB
Kinetic graduate Courtney Clarke signs two year contract at League Two club Walsall!
Courtney joined Kinetic in 2020 as a winger. He was converted into a central midfielder where he started to show great ability and promise. As part of the Kinetic Academy programme, Courtney became a regular playing step 4 senior football aged 17 at Whyteleafe under then manager and Kinetic co-founder Harry Hudson, he consistently delivered mature performances which attracted additional interest from pro clubs. He was offered trials at Leicester City, Watford and West Ham before agreeing to sign for Derby County in March 2021
In the summer of 2023, Courtney signed for National League North side South Shields where he made 36 appearances and put in several man of the match performances. He then moved to National League South side Eastbourne Borough for the 2024/25 season. His impressive performances at right wing-back saw him win the Young Player of the Year Award
Congratulations @CourtsOfficial4! A well deserved move after two impressive seasons at Step 2. We look forward to continuing to follow your football journey, now in the EFL!
I still can’t reconcile the fact that the owners, whose strategy is based heavily on stats and algorithms, think a manager who won 3 out of the last 20 odd games is the right man for the job.
Really? Barrett made the League 2 team of the year! He also created a lot of chances for us. Like Gordon, he was over-played and just ran out of steam. I believe that we will sell him, either this summer, or next season for a lot of money.
Looks a really astute piece of business to start our summer recruitment programme. A young player who has been hugely impressive at his current level and with hige upside potential.
An extremely powerful and explosive athlete sounds tremendously exciting.
And I disagree with that. He was shit for half the season. And I mean, abysmal. The tired excuse only stretches so far and he deserved to lose his place to Asiimwe.
