I said the same to someone today. I don’t know if Simkin is a good shot stopper at all.
I’m confident we can keep a clean sheet, so we just need to find a goal which we’ve been pretty good at this season.

Result more important than the performance tomorrow for me
Fleetwood will offer another incredibly difficult test but one which we are capable of overcoming if we are at or near our best. Whilst I’m not always fully in agreement with a horses for courses approach to team selection I do think this is an opportunity given how much strength in depth we now have in our squad to freshen things up given the shift we put in on Saturday and indeed last midweek, tired legs will catch up with us otherwise.
My promotion campaign muscle memory is well jaded but I recognise the feeling of thinking every game is a “must win” when it obviously isn’t.
Being realistic, our October fixtures look OK, but we shan’t win them all. Stuff happens in football games that you just can’t plan for. And all teams have off days.
If we get ten points in October that would get us to 28 points from 14 - two points a game which is top three of not champion form.
To get ten points from 6, we’re talking about winning three which would represent a mild dip in form.
Be lovely to start the month tomorrow with a win and we should do all we can to energise ourselves with that aim. But if we don’t, it isn’t the end of the world. Things are still looking very good.
I’d be happy with four points this week.
I think what is important in promotion seasons is how you react after a defeat, I remember that being a key feature of the 98/99 promotion, we always bounced back right away after a bad result. So far this season we have also done that.
As you say, there will be off days, but if you keep the points ticking over it will all be fine.
We gave Wrexham a pasting last season, but they still went up.
Yes. In that season, I think we had a Colchester stinker but followed it up with a brilliant win at Bournemouth. A Wrack belter.
I remember that Colchester game well, Emberson played a blinder for them in the second half, Man City won and was gaining momentum… still we also lost at Preston and then went and won at Lincoln, the rest is history as they say
There are a few teams in our league over recent years that have had terrible starts and had great runs to climb the table. You don’t really want to be in that position though, nice and steady will win the race. I fancy our home record will be one of the best in the division this season, if we can pick up enough points on the road I give us a great chance.
I see that Fleetwood had three of theirs in the EFL team of the week (Coughlin, Bonds and Wiredu) vs one of ours (Jellis).
A basket case last year, with their owner in prison, potential financial trouble and doomed for possibly more than one relegation, Charlie Adam arrived too late to save them from the drop. But in his first stint as a manger he has made some decent acquisitions, steadied the trawler, and they are looking a decent outfit. Virtue scored twice from midfield on Saturday but didn’t make team of the week - he’s a decent player.
I’m hoping for a win - but this will be a real test and an indication of how far we are progressing.
Big test. Another good side.
3-2 win
I thinkSadler has the mentality of trying to beat what’s in front of you without worrying about who’s in form and who is not
He knows this team is capable of beating anyone in this league no mater how tough the opposition is, that attitude will take us a long way.
Long may the run continue.
The weather forecast is awful today. Is there any chance it might be called off?
Game has got to be in grave danger if the forecast is correct, all of this rain falling on already saturated ground. Would expect a pitch inspection at the very least and it’s in everyone’s interests to make that decision as early as possible.
The rain appears to petering out around tea time so I think it will probably go ahead.I am not sure I will there as I have a heavy cold. I think it would be better for the team if the match went ahead. We are in good form and momentum is with us.
You are such a drama queen Croddy. We’ve got covers and the groundsman can also look at the weather forecast. Unless we get an absolute thunder storm late this afternoon then the match will be on.
2:1 win with ball holding up in a massive puddle preventing Fleetwood from scoring a 99th minute equaliser
Just been to get Grimsby tickets and they said pitch was fine for tonight.
It’s a good job that the unions aren’t prominent at Bescot, otherwise they’d never let the ladies in the ticket office look after the pitch as well.
On paper this will be our toughest test so far there strikers are very dangerous and quick.
