After watching the goals there’s only the 6th he should’ve saved the rest he wasn’t at fault for any of them. The defence inability to defend crosses from deep came back to bite us. People saying Daniel’s but he’s the same when it comes to long balls into the box ( Wimbledon away last season). I think the defence and keeper earned enough in the bank to be picked again on Saturday. Start earing and Albert/johnson instead of Matt and lakin.
He’s never been angry (publicly) about anything. That’s his style. It can be frustrating for fans especially when we are annoyed, but I suppose it keeps a calmness.
Brilliant…it was Josh’s absence that lost it. Guess we’d have got into double figures against Colchester.
Comley on the other hand.
Well, it didn’t help the defence that it looked like he’d forgotten how to catch every time a ball came into the box tbf
What is your point?
His flapping and missed punches will be taken into consideration by future opposition coaches
Simkin should have done better for the last goal as it went straight through him, however I’d also question how they managed to get a shot off from the edge of the area whilst loads of our players didn’t make any kind of challenge, just stood there.
Spot on Steve, we win as a team and lose as a team, I;'m not a fan of those piling in on Tommy Simkin for OTT individual criticism, plenty of reasons why we lost on Tuesday.
Yeah there’s a weakness there now. Watch Chesterfield put people on him from corners.
Come on now, the opposition are going to have pot shots. You are never going to restrict all of their possession at all times in and around your box. That goal was totally on Simkin, should have been regulation.
They reckon on average “football grief “ after a bad defeat lasts on average 2days .so you doing ok mate
I disagree - well, a bit anyway.
We were weak at the back in the second half but few teams will get a conversion rate of 6 goals from 7 shots on target. It would be phenomenal to get a return of half that number being successful*.
In part, this was a freak result and they were never, never four goals better than us over 95 minutes. These things happen and I trust Sadler to sort us out. Whether we will return consistently to the form we showed up to now is an open question but I am certain that the Fleetwood debacle will not be repeated and that, at the very least, we will have a decent season with an excellent chance of being in the playoffs. And any of us would have snatched your hand off for that at the start of the season. Last game excepted, the Team have made me very happy this season. UT bloody S .
- I am aware that in Association Football you can’t have a score of 3-and-a-half goals.
But keep your lucky pants!!
Simkin does look shakey on crosses - he definitely needs to work that very important aspect of goalkeeping. But the best way to go after falling from your horse, is to get straight back in the saddle! Let’s hope he has a great game on Saturday. My appraisal of him so far is that he’s no better than Jackson Smith - I would have liked to have kept the latter as I believe he has a lot of potential. He played for Grimsby the other night - if he wanted to play in league 2, he could have stayed with us!
Well I don’t think Smith did want too, he probably thought he could break through. I doubt the plan was to be sent on an emergency loan back to league two.
I honestly think he was so poor under crosses he needs to come out of the side. It’s a simple thing that will be targeted. They lumped a ball forward at one point yesterday he had an absolute age under, and he still fluffed it. That needs to be worked on and I’d rather that wasn’t when vital points are up for grabs.
As a former keeper, I know that shot-stopping is the easy part of the game as you generally don’t have time to think about these things. The hard parts are commanding your box, coming to claim or punch crosses under pressure, and judging when to come off your line or stay put. You have time to think about these decisions and, if you are low in confidence, your thought process can get a bit mangled. Simkin needs to come and claim the first cross on Saturday and show Chesterfield that they are wasting their time, targeting him! It’s a lonely place being a keeper when the opposition smell blood.
I’d rather he did that in the warm up, then watched Sam Hornby have a go in the match to be honest.
Simkin from the start of the season looked reticent to come and claim crosses but in the last couple of games he had started to look more assured. Claimed a couple against Colchester. Seems to have natural confidence so hopefully he can shrug it off and continue to improve.
Hope so anyway because Hornby has never established himself as a No.1 anywhere during his long career
I’m glad he’s a calm manager. There’s no point hanging your players out to dry after a bad performance. The key is to stay grounded when we win 4-0 and even more grounded when we lose 6-2! Analyse what when wrong and decide whether we need to make changes. Personally, I would bring Donovan in for Dave and Cleary in for Jamma, with DJ on in the second half.
They could do what Fleetwood did and get two players to sit ontop of him
