Some hints and tips below for away supporters to get the most out of their day:
While Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium is far from the largest ground in England’s fourth tier, a trip to the arena is still usually an incredibly enjoyable one.
Its combination of relatively ample facilities, variety of pubs, a good if not very good away section and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a terrific away day and one certainly worth ticking off your bucket list. Many visiting spectators also comment on the friendliness of the locals and the convenience of the stadium’s location, which is just a short walk from the seafront and the town centre.
Away fans at Highbury are housed in the Percy Ronson Stand at the southern end of the stadium, where around 800 fans can be accommodated. If demand requires it, then more away supporters can be accommodated in the Parkside Stand to boost this allocation.
The Percy Ronson Stand, which was opened in 2007, is covered, free from supporting pillars and affords a splendid view of the playing action.
The facilities in the Parkside Stand are far superior to those in the Percy Ronson Stand, with alcoholic drinks available for purchase and large screens on the concourse usually showing ITV3 or ITV4.
Away fans with tickets in the Percy Ronson Terrace can enter the stadium via turnstiles 1–3 at the junction of Hatfield Avenue and Highbury Avenue.
While Fleetwood Town supporters are usually incredibly welcoming of away fans, they are still extremely passionate and vocal on matchday, as such it is advised to keep away colours covered in the immediate vicinity of the arena, you may wear away colours away from the arena at your own discretion.
Expect to hear a lot of noise from the home crowd during your visit, with some of the more common chants sung at Highbury as follows:
-
Red Army
-
Come On Fleetwood
-
Scared Of Fish
-
We F*****G hate Morecambe (they’re a bunch of c****s)
-
Fleetwood Till’ I Die
Fleetwood Town is a very welcoming city and fanbase and as such, well behaved travelling away spectators are welcome to drink in Jim’s Bar – located at Highbury Stadium itself – before the match.
However, if you would instead prefer to enjoy those pre-match pints in the town centre, there are still plenty of options for you.
Top suggestions are as follows:
-
Queens – Poulton Rd, Fleetwood FY7 6TF - A modern family style pub hugely popular with members of the football family young and old alike, outdoor seating available and dog friendly
-
The Kings Arms – 105 Lord St, Fleetwood FY7 6LB - A pub with a sporting theme, showing many live sports and classic movies, a range of snacks available
-
Three Lights – Herring Arm Rd, Fleetwood FY7 6NB - A family friendly pub with a traditional food menu
Food and drink options at Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium are adequate without being revolutionary, and you can expect traditional football dishes such as burgers, hotdogs, french fries and sweet and savoury pies to be served upon your visit. Bottled water is also available.
For those making a day of it nearby attractions include:
Fleetwood Museum
If you are someone who enjoys learning about the history and culture of the places you visit, a trip to Fleetwood Museum might just be for you.
Located within the oldest building in Fleetwood, which is just one mile away from Highbury Stadium, provides visitors with the opportunity to explore real objects from the town’s past such as rocks and bricks.
It is only open from March to November each year, with standard opening hours between 10:30 am and 4 pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
Fleetwood Market
An alternative option is to visit the renowned Fleetwood Market, located on Adelaide Street.
Offering a wide range of products from fresh produce to unique, hand-made arts and crafts, Fleetwood Market has something for every member of the football family including members of the away audience.
Dating back to the 19th century, the market is open all year round, currently operating on its winter opening hours, which are 9am-4pm.
