Former players - where are they now?

Could Kinsella be back in favour after Saturday’s match at Carlisle?

Flynn highlighted some individual and collective aspects of the game.

“In the first half the best player on the pitch was Liam Kinsella – he broke up so many of their possession positions and then we were able to create a goalscoring opportunity,” added Flynn, who brought Carlisle-born former Blues striker Ryan Bowman off the bench late on.

Different Forde. The one that got sent off is Shaqai Forde who is black. Anthony Forde is still at Wrexham

…and not black!!

Isaac Hutchinson started and scored for Brizzle in their trophy game against Exeter City.
Lost 3-2 though.

Liam Kinsella started on the bench for Cheltenham against West Ham U21s and they won 3-1. Maybe Flynn is turning a corner!

He drove me round the bend, I know that.

Give it three or four games then will come a long a winding winless streak where it’s everyone’s fault but his . In my book he is up there with Barnwell , Hutchings as our worst manager in the last 30 years (Dutton doesn’t count as he was a mistake before he was appointed)

Jimmy Mullen? Kevin broadhust?

When Flynn took over we were in danger of relegation following a horrible result away to Scunthorpe. Flynn kept us up, and results and performances improved.

He did some stuff right - I remember him being outside Edgely Park meeting and greeting the fans - and what followed was arguably his best result as a Walsall manager - winning 2-1 against a very good Stockport side.

I don’t rate Flynn as a coach - he was the right fit at Newport but he’s failed everywhere else. I don’t think his man management was the best either. But I don’t think he’s our worst manager - Broadhurst, Merson, Mullen are contenders there - but not Flynn. Hope he continues to turn the corner at Cheltenham as, above all, he comes across as a decent and passionate bloke who wears his heart on his sleeve - and that at least I can respect.

I agree with all of that. Think he had his heart in the job and gave it his all, but ultimately fell short. I wish him no ill for that, whereas the likes of O’Dismal, I couldn’t care two hoots about.

Tw@t!!

Bit harsh. The run was horrible but as said below he inherited a situation where dropping to non league was a serious possibility (given Taylor’s last match was horrible 1-0 loss at Scunny) but comfortably kept team up and got club to 4th round of cup which made a bit of money. The league form was very poor though.

In the same category as Clarke, manager who should’ve worked out but didn’t.

Not sure what the expectations are at Cheltenham but worth remembering Carlisle came down with them and now in bottom 2. Morecambe and Accy were also league 1 clubs not so long ago and similar sizes to Cheltenham.

TBF to Dutton he was thrown into the deep end and did the best he could have with what he had .

He set us up ultra defensive with no attacking threat whatsoever. Anyone could do that.

So why didn’t the previous manager do that then.

It was what was needed at the time .

Are you talking about Flynn or Dutton? I don’t think Dutton was ultra defensive and I very much agree he was given a bad hand when he took over.

There was no doubt Dutton had a bad hand but these were the dark days of Covid and the club took the view that it was important to stay up without losing too much money. Dutton was the cheap option but he was never going to be the permanent head coach. And, although hindsight wears rose-tinted spectacles, the football was truly dire.

There was dire football under Dutton, I can’t deny that, but there were also moments of good football such as Bolton away and Cambridge away (although we lost those games :joy:). I think he was capable of building something and just out of interest I’d have liked to have seen what he could have done given time. Certainly we didn’t get anywhere under his replacements Taylor and Flynn.

It’s very unfair Dutton is grouped with our worst managers in history.

All academic now though.
