Talking to Bristol Rovers fan about Hutchinson and Sawyers.
He said Hutch took a while to settle but has looked decent in the second half of the season for them.
He said Sawyers has been dreadful and looks past it at League one level now.
I quite like Owen Evans - he’s not a bad keeper. He got a bit of stick here when he didn’t really deserve it - I don’t understand it when fans get on their own players’ backs, unless of course those players aren’t trying. But I never got that impression with Evans, I think he just lost his confidence, not helped by the abuse!

I think Owen Evan’s got to the same point as Liam Robert’s. Both good keepers that had a bad run of form and reached a tipping point with a certain element of our fan base. It was best for all concerned they move on.
I often wonder if, as Walsall fans we are a bit harsh on keepers due to having Whacker for so long. It’s a bloody high standard to be measured against and maybe we were just ‘spoiled’ for so long .

O’Connell made the league one team of the year.
Liked him when he was on loan here. Bit staggered to see that was eight years ago! The mid 2010s don’t really seem that long ago when you think who was playing in those seasons.

Roberts did well when he first came in. He just lost confidence in the relegation season and should’ve been taken out of the firing line at a similar time that Simkin was. A few weeks out to refocus and he might’ve been crucial in last few games.
In terms of talent he probably did have enough to be championship squad keeper which is the role he’s now been in for a few years.
Was disappointed in Evans considering what he showed at Cheltenham in his first spell there. Bang average.
I’d say in last 20 years it’s more bad keepers standing out as also had likes of Ince, O’Donnell and Etheridge who were all very good for the levels they were at. Then solid loans like Sam Johnstone, Rushworth and now Simkin.
From what I’ve seen Brain was in a hopeless league of his own and Gillespie was a big downgrade following Etheridge.
