Fulham u-21 (H) ... EFL Trophy 17 Sept, kick off 7pm

Not only this but fans seem to get carried away with how good they think these lads are, and are going to be.

Look at Bates and Perry as examples - for a while there were fans almost believing these two were going to be the next Xavi and Iniesta. The expectation placed on products of what for years has been a failed youth system is often far too high, and then the criticism far too harsh when they fail to achieve the standards they are imagined to be capable of.

Wonder what the hold up with the deal is… i thought he would have been signed monday so he could play tuesday

One of those where we didn’t play badly nor did we particularly play well either. glad we got the win but to be honest you wouldn’t have said an equaliser was unfair in the last 20 minutes. Hornby earned his money anyway.

Again we had some tired looking guys out there in the second half. Especially the lads who played on Saturday…But thankfully we appear to have got through unscathed…

They train for 2 games per week, and the season has only just started so to say they look “tired” already is an insult to the clubs fitness regime.

Not to mention injuries and how many minutes players in your squad have to play verses others. Fans misunderstanding that fatigue is way more complex than “they’ve only played a few games!” is a tale as old as time.

Eight hundred and seventy five in attendance so rough takings from gate receipts would be about £8,000 so a fair increase on last season (around £6,000) and given the smaller audience staffing and electric costs would have been lower with only one stand open.

Not taking into account that with double the amount of fans in the ground there would have been more money spent in the ground.

I remember buying my two a hot dog in the ground at the Brighton game and almost dropping through the floor when she told me how much it was!

To be fair Brighton did bring a few that night so I doubt we’d have matched that crowd even at a fiver.

Well thankfully we’ve got you on UTS to explain the definitive reason to those of us who don’t really understand and just waiting to have it explained by some condescending know it all…thanks @el_nombre:+1:

No worries!

Two stands were open.

Only in one block of the Poundland though so I imagine they had to use the facilities in the Main Stand thus preventing having to power anything in that stand or pay catering staff in there either.

It was a poor gate last night which in turn made for a muted atmosphere.
Playing against u21 sides is obviously not popular with many supporters but it is what it is.
Personally I’d prefer to see teams from the national league play in the competition but that’s just my opinion and others may disagree with that.

That might blur the distinction between the NL and the EFL. The NL teams are the big boys in the FA Trophy, which is their chance for a Wembley Final.

Sadly the leading National League see the Trophy as a distraction from the league campaign.

I think £10k for us isn’t a pittance.

But we get £20k participation fee.
We got £5k from the draw at Blues.

We get a share of the gate receipts - which considering there were nearly 10,000 at Blues would be worth having.

I reckon we’re over £50k for this tournament so far with more to come. And because the League Cup doesn’t have prize money, will be more than we’ve made from the first two games of that competition.

I always enjoy the U21 games, and last night was particularly good. The Fulham youngsters were technically way above the quality of opposition we usually play, and from a pure football point of view it was good to see them in action. It makes a pleasant change from seeing Walsall battling against players who frequently misplace their passes and have dodgy ball control.

I don’t think it makes sense for a fan who would enjoy seeing his team play, to boycott these matches because he doesn’t agree with them on principle. I detest Rupert Murdoch and all he stands for, but that doesn’t stop me from watching football on Sky or reading The Times. I am not going to make my life less enjoyable by making a futile gesture. That would be cutting off my nose to spite my face.

I think there’s many, like myself, who simply don’t have the appetite to watch the senior football team they support playing academy teams. If that’s your bag fair enough, but there’s no futility in not participating in something you don’t feel you can enjoy.

Its all about whatever bag of money the Premier league have dangled in front of the EFL to allow it it’s bad for the competition but i can’t see it changing back to what it was anytime soon which is a shame because it was a good cup for League one and two sides I’d go home and away to watch us play in it in the past.

Going back to Mayer he is not really showing any signs of breaking into the first 11 and maybe a loan to to a decent national league side would benefit him .
He does seemed to have stalled slightly but what we also have to remember is although he seems to have been around forever he is only 19 and should be given time to improve his game .

If I could cross Jellis with Mayer I think we wold have a pretty impressive player on our hands .but like you say early days .
