Albert for Barrett is the one puzzling me tbh. Mat hasn’t done it all season, choosing rather to use him in a more attacking role. I’m not sure it would be a great call tbh, especially away from home, as he seems a bit rash in his challenges at times, and seems to prefer being further up the pitch.
Probably will be picked in that position and play a blinder - what do I know
Would prefer Browne at rwb has looked decent when called upon.
Adomah on the bench as an impact sub for the last 20 if needed as that’s how I see him now at 37
Yes that would be my team.
I don’t think he will play Albert there, I think he is more likely to play up front than wing back.
I’d expect the lad from Charlton to play wing back. I can’t even remember his name now Or maybe Sadler will have another ace up his sleeve. I’d be surprised if Albert plays there though. I am often wrong though, to be fair.
Wheatley?
He is on international duty.
Throughout his career, Adomah has played far more often as a wing back than as a striker. I know some people question whether at 37 he is fit enough for that role, but he to me, he seems fitter than a lot of players ten years younger.
I don’t think he had ever played wing back before he came to Walsall. Winger, wide midfielder, which is completely different.
I agree he does look fit for his age but wing back is a big task especially away from home with the amount of possession other teams have against us
A number of sources say that when Adomah went to QPR aged 34 Mark Warburton played him mostly as a wing-back.
When Mat Sadler signed him in the summer, this was what he said:
“There were some options that I had in that right wing-back spot that I was considering but then Albert came in and completely changed all of that with the way he’s gone about things, his experience, the person that he is, the way he conducts himself around the group and most importantly what he does on the grass.
I am not aware of him being played as a specialist striker at any of his previous clubs.
I remember reading something on the QPR thread he played a couple of games at wingback but the general opinion amongst the fans it was not is greatest position and he was lacking defensively .
You are probably correct Bernie, and I agree about his fitness. My issue is that he isn’t, and hasn’t played in that position for us, and unless he’s been playing there in training, I see a problem with him just rocking up as a wingback for such an important game.Would be like dropping in a new signing straight in there.
Mat Sadler does not play wingers - so he would not sign a player who was a specialist winger who could only play on the wing - someone like Anthony Forde.
Correct he signed a player who had played wingback for basically only QPR and has not played him there .likewise signed DJ a striker and goal scorer and is loathe to play him .very strange .
I’d be happy with that team. Shows how much depth we have as I don’t think it’s signficantly weaker than the team that drew away at Bromley. Think we’ll miss Liam Gordon the most.
I think the club made a mistake by postponing the home fixture against Gillingham (back in November) - reckon that’s 2 points lost there.
Fingers crossed it pays off fella
Anyone know how many we’ve sold?
Bringing Adomah on as a sub at RWB when the impetus is on us attacking or the game is won to play to his strengths is one thing.
Starting him as RWB in a team that is frankly going through a tough spell would be a huge risk in my opinion.
If he signed him as a wing back, which he may well have done. All a bit strange, since I don’t recall him starting a single game in that position (possibly once in the tinpot cup) And he has had very limited time there as a sub also, although I admit I think he has looked better there.
Anyway, in my post earlier I wasn’t saying he shouldn’t play as wing back Saturday, I just don’t think he will.
