He was really poor against FGR. Unfair to judge him on one game but he clearly didn’t show in training else he would have had more chances.
Yes, he didn’t do anywhere near enough to look worthy of another start, even when we were poor. Now we look good, he must be miles away.
Pity we can’t find out more about these loan players before we bring them in as quite a few never seem to work out for us, yes some do but more miss than hit.
That’s the chance you take I suppose.
Some work and in our case, most don’t. Hopefully we will continue making links with our more illustrious neighbours in order to give their better youngsters some gametime.
Which local do you think would be the best to crack?
For me it would be Villa.
Strange loan move considering how much game time he had
Up there with the most pointless loan signings of all time
I get it - padding the numbers out.
We used to only sign better than what we’ve got. I’m sure that was a Graydon or Colin Lee quote.
Assume it was a small percentage if any of his wages.
I’d love us to be seen as a trusted local club to send players to get game time. Haven’t been for a while !
How on earth will we cope … must be utter rubbish if he couldn’t even break into the match day squad when we were so short of numbers and just not performing
Liam Keen says that because Griffiths has made an appearance for Wolves already this season, he will not be able to have a second loan move. I assume that means he was told that there was little chance of him getting much game time here.
Does that rule only apply to league clubs, or would it mean that Maher would only be able to return to Rushall if Sadler decided to loan him out again?
This I believe is the only way we should be using loaners, if they aren’t as good as what we already have what is the point, squad fillers isn’t what we really need to use them for.
Was it his first loan? Sometimes youngers don’t do well in their first loan finding it difficult to adjust to a new environment but then do much better in their 2nd.
Not sure, he’s been around different clubs though as wolves signed him from man city
Players can only play for two EFL clubs in a season. Maher has only played for us so could in theory be loaned out to another EFL club.
These Premier League loans seem to either be amazing or terrible. Never anything in between.
To me we should getting priority over a lot of there youngsters given our supposed relationship with them and we let there lady’s share our ground ?
Problem with Villa youngsters is usually the best ones are too good for league 2. They go straight to the Championship. We would get the very young ones on first loans which are hit and miss.
Louis Barry had a couple of poor loans and his later ones clubs have paid a fortune in loan fees and wages.
Finn Aziz at Newport was an exception to this so we shouldn’t ignore the possibility of prem loans. Also far less likely to be called back.
I think a lot of it is to do with attitude rather than ability. Clearly he’s a talented player as he was around the first team squad at Wolves before the loan. Given that, there’s a decent chance that he thought he was too good to be here and should have gone higher up the pyramid.
Working the other way Karl Rushworth was clearly supremely talented when he came in but it was very much 50/50 between him and Jack Rose as to who would start the season in goal. He worked hard, bought into what the club stood, reaped the rewards and is now flourishing. Jason McCarthy was similar, although we were League One at the time
Much is said about getting the right characters in, but it’s particularly important with young players from Premier League clubs
On the face of it he was potentially a good loan signing, came through the Manchester city system and Wolves actually paid around 400k for him , making him one of the highest monetary value members of our squad , but in the games I saw him he looked very one paced , hope he can progress his career elsewhere…
There was talk of him not being fit, or physically ready (which might be different) for the first couple of months here.
I have seen something that suggested he was ‘our’ highest paid player - £5,200 p/w. Obviously Wolves would have been picking much of that up.
