How do you sort the defence?

Never understood the Scar signing , Blues took a punt on him from non league. He hasn’t exactly lived up to his potential with Blues getting rid as soon as they could.

What exactly made us believe he would good enough to come in and strengthen the defence? There was nothing whatsoever factual to support it. Just the same as Laird he’s bobbins!

The problem with Norman and Scarr is that they both need games (probably a season) to try and establish themselves at this level, as at the moment they are not good enough. They were both signed at the wrong time as we needed proven league 1 players to fix the problem we have. They both MIGHT be good enough next season in league 2 given time, but the damage this season will do to them could ruin them for good.

Exactly , however we already have a squad full of players that require development.

We didn’t need to add to the list.

He’s played there for Norwich’s youth team and is tall enough.

I don’t know whether it would work but I’d rather try it than persist with Scarr.

Is it not a fair point? It’s too easy to say change the manager and everything will be fine.

Not sure how playing players out of position will help , especially one who looks poor in his specialised position?

In answer to the original question I think we have to bolster the midfield perhaps by playing 5 across the middle. In a lot of games we have been overrun there. I know that would mean Cook operating as a lone striker which isn’t ideal but desperately need some clean or nearly clean sheets.

He just looks more equipped than Scarr for league one football. But hey, I never said it definitely would work, I’m not sure there is an answer.

This is exactly my point though. I’ve never once said he should kee his job. You keep giving me reasons why he should be sacked, fine! Do it!

You say they are performing worse, now you are splitting hairs. They were probably relegation level last season and are relegation level this season. I don’t see the massive drop off, they’ve always been ■■■■. Interesting that you pick up on 1 point per game being such and abysmal record … when that is what this defence achieved last season virtually.

But I don’t see how that sorts the defence at all. These players need to take some of the responsibility. But every thread has to devolve into a Keates out shouting contest when there are other issues.

If you don’t see “the massive drop off” when we’ve just lost 8 games out of 9, winning 1 game in the last 13, taking 5 points from the last 36 available, then you’ll have to let me know when the “drop off” actually occurs so I don’t miss it?

Anyway its obvious Keates is going to in charge on Saturday, so we’ve just got to hope that whatever changes he makes will finally translate into the performance and result the club needs to put this horrendous run to bed, a run described by Keates himself as “Let’s not paper over anything. We are in horrendous form”, so clearly no “massive drop off”.

You gave the figures yourself. Last season 22 points from 21 games. This season 35 points from 33 games.

They may be performing worse but these defenders aren’t good enough whoever the manager is. But some people simply will not see past “Dean Keates” at this stage. Same thing happened with Whitney last year :man_shrugging:

There’s a difference between a drop off and players just being ■■■■. It’s the latter. They were never any good to begin with.

You’re defending him on another thread. You are a total troll just looking for arguments. Sound out in disguise.

Bore off. I’m defending him from unfair criticism. The job he has done isn’t good enough. But we are now entering Whitney territory of blaming him for everything.

Trolls don’t make fair points, like i did at the outset of this thread and throughout.

Jog on.

Whose the troll now :joy:

You. Pick your position. Is the team good enough? The manager? The club?

You’re arguing shifting sands to suit yourself and its bloody aggravating.

My position is quite clear and I’ve said it over and over and over and haven’t shifted once.

The club is THE MOST at fault. This stems way way back to the day we lost the play offs or maybe even the day Smith walked out. Resources, not just money but a whole system, was completely flushed that day. They had the chance to reinvest that summer and bring in a proper manager. They didn’t and have continued not to do so ever since.

The Manager for all his good will, hasn’t been good enough. I’ve never once, at any point throughout this discussion said that he is. If he goes he goes. But I genuinely don’t think it matters. We are unlikely to find a decent replacement at this stage in the bargain bin Bonsor is most likely to shop.

The players bring it back to my original point. They were ■■■■■ under a different manager and now they are ■■■■■ under this one. Put anyone you want in charge there needs to be a drastic change in how the defence has been set up and personnel. People have suggested 5 at the back. I’d concur with that. It still means at least 2 of Scarr Guthrie and Fitz are on the pitch at any given time but it’s worth a shot.

All three are culpable. But at the minute all I read is Keates Keates Keates, without even defending him on this topic.

What a troll.

I honestly would have preferred for him to have kept the same Defenders he had and spent the money on another more “football” minded CM in the Dobson mould and a more experienced winger and have played 3 in midfield.

Seen some good suggestions for 3-5-2 and 4-5-1. Either would suit but we’re definitely getting over run in midfield.

Get back Ronan in central midfield and build the entire team around him:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

You know nothing about football.

I don’t think he had any choice but to sign defenders. When Wilson’s loan ended and Fitz was recalled and Martin decided he couldn’t hack it we literally had 4 defenders on the books total.

And I mean, he brought in a winger with over 100 Premier League appearances and an England cap, I really don’t think experienced wingers are the issue.

But I agree on the formation. This team has been crying out for 3-5-2 for months. He tried it once and threw it away for no reason
