Atmosphere comes with success on the pitch and numbers in the ground unfortunately we have neither at the moment. Iptv has probably affected the numbers in the ground and lack of investment in the past decade or so as impacted the lack of success plus the design of the stand just doesn’t allow for good acoustics.
Unreserved sitting for home fans in the current away end, and shift away fans to a section of the family stand.
Fully agree, I’d put any side bringing less than 800 or so down the side and make the current away end unallocated seating. for home supporters.
I don’t buy the using the away end argument, it will just split the fans who make some noise even more. The only way it works is if you close the big stand completely.
As I often do I totally agree with this post.
People often look to blame Bescot Stadium itself for the lack of atmosphere. It’s perfectly fine for our needs to be honest and when we want to we can create a good atmosphere.
I have experienced different kinds of atmospheres at Bescot. With all the best intentions in the world it is hard to get anything going if you are playing Salford or similar in a bog standard League 2 game with an away following of about 50, even more so if the football you are watching is dire.
There are the tense atmospheres like the second leg of the paint pot trophy v Preston, a full ground and a decent atmosphere but the nerves of the occasion kind of stopped it from getting into full flow until the final whistle was blown. A great atmosphere that sticks in my mind was in 1999 v Macclesfield towards the end of the season. 2-0 up and singing " Stand up if you’re going up" The hairs on the back of my neck were standing up as well!
Or games like Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day. The battle between home and away fans created a really good atmosphere and even better with the ending.
I also agree about Fellows Park, people do tend to look back with rose tinted glasses. It will always be our real home and football was very different back then. It wasn’t always the cauldron of noise we like to remember.
Many factors dictate how the atmosphere will turn out, it can just be an incident in a game that kicks starts it. In the end, it is down to the supporters to make it happen, but they are unlikely to do so if they have little to shout about.
A scoreflash on the board when the dingles or villa go one nill down always used to get the crowd going back in the day, lets try it again.
Every little helps
I always sit on the side, much better view apart from the stanchions.
Get a divorce
The best atmospheres are spontaneous.
Trying to manufacture an atmosphere is pretty tinpot.
Some fans tried to get some singing going in the upper a few years back under Dean Smith. Began to work until we went to shit, although most of the singing still remained in the lower. People then left and went back to their usual places, also trying to ask people to move to a more expensive spot just so their singing can be heard a bit louder won’t take off.
People sit/stand where they do for a reason so I think opening the away end up for us would split the fans, as others have said.
I agree. I hate drums and bands also those ‘flags’ and banners that are obviously put up by the clubs rather than brought by fans.
That’s possible already it’s just that fans choose not to buy tickets in those blocks
I think Ring Of Fire was great. I know a lot of fans are not sure what it is, anyone able to put it on here ?
I’m not sure the atmosphere could be manufactured. The crowd seems to react to what’s happening on the pitch.
I’ve always been in the upper tier and it does seem fairly quiet up there at times but then as soon as we’re bearing down on the opposition goal it definitely picks up.
Against Grimsby and Colchester it felt as if we had our best chances when attacking the away end, may just be case that when the chances come attacking the home end the noise will be louder.
Bring back standing in the lower tier. Stand with who you want, where you want and makes it easier to take a friend
Sorry for the video content.
The Crewe fans also came up with this a few years earlier in a similar vein (for 98 World Cup), which got played a lot at Bescot.
Dario G Ring of Fire did get us going behind the goal when the players come out I must admit. Bring it back!
A quite superb song that gets everyone up and the place rocking. The pre-match music could do with some refinement for me. A few more crowd pleasers like M People, Take That and Black Eyed Peas.
I actually don’t have any complaints with a drum, if it’s used poorly it does look tinpot but used in the right way it can really set a good atmosphere
