L 1-0 vs Northampton Town (H) - League Two - Sat 5th Feb, 3pm

Quote from Taylor on Rodney.

“I’m really, really excited for the fans to see him on the pitch.”
It doesn’t take a lot to get us excited these days does it…:grinning:?
So much is expected of him, it’s as if our whole season depends on him being our saviour, I hope the pressure doesn’t affect his game.

Yes, I wish we had Guthrie back. Sometimes you don’t realise what you’ve lost until it’s gone!

Not very good news looking at the excrete & stir website - Stephen Ward injury not as bad as feared and he could be back in a few weeks. I’m happy for the bloke that his injury isn’t too bad but does that mean that he’s gonna be back out on the pitch? I hope not.
I also tried to listen to their “bescot beat” podcast - 5 minutes in and they were still wittering on about bloody cuppasoups. I know there’s not much to say about walsall these days but bloody hell!
Anyway - were going to lose on Saturday and I’m not going.

Should have stuck with it mate, they progress to Bombay bad boy pot noodles :joy:

I’d be less angry if we actually tried to be positive and lost, as opposed to the inevitable 4231 with no creativity.

I think looking at the squad and players we have… we are set up to play 343 or 433.

Rushworth

Leak Daniels Menayese

White Kinsella Earring Devine

Wilkinson Miller Rodney

Or the 433

White Daniels Menayese Devine

Earring Kins Bates

Wilkinson Miller Rodney

… but we won’t because we play negative hoof ball.

Well, at least he has to change something with Rodney coming in.

I see the point of three at the back but I am always wary when the wing-backs are primarily defenders, as there is a tendency to go to 5 at the back and we have enough trouble as it is moving the ball forward.

He will surely play Labadie and I can guarantee he will not play Bates. Rodney into the 11 above Kiernan is likely, although I would look hard at Wilkinson myself - he needs to stop complaining. But I think the personnel will be as for the 433, with JL and not AB, and I would be (pleasantly) surpised if he plays anything but 4-2-3-1

If he plays.

I’d be happy with either, even 3-5-2.
Anything but 4-2-3-1 zzzzzz

I think that’s the more the point - anything but continuing with this formation that doesn’t work.

I’d rather see us try something different than continuing this boring football.

I’m personally hoping Liam Roberts gets a warm reception he was a fantastic servant making 130 plus appearances and has gone on to better himself at a team higher up the league than we are ever going to get I can’t fault him at all and good luck to him.

A couple of quick points:

Roberts made some big mistakes last season.

Rushworth is a young keeper with loads of potential.

However, Menayese’s red card was his fault.
I blame Rushworth for Daniels’ header because He was rooted to his line. An experienced pro would have punched it clear. White’s defending was also weak but I think it was fatigue that he didn’t get to the ball rather than head for the goal line.

Finally, forgive me for not checking who said it earlier but someone has already pointed out that a misplaced pass or conceding an early goal could turn the game toxic.

I really hope that Rodney scores an early goal to settle the nerves but we might need a Dobson style late show. Despite their recent form, Northampton are no mugs so we have to stay patient.

The club need to offer a good deal for Future fixtures (kids for a quid or friends for a fiver) because lose that and we’re really in the mire.

Both clubs are terrible but Scunthorpe away is no certainty.

We must stop the rot and a scruffy 1-0 is absolutely fine with me.

I do wonder whether Rose will play a part though between now and the end of the season because I can’t see a clean sheet from our current back 5…

I’d say he was at fault for Exeter’s first goal too by attempting to come for the ball but going too far towards the back of the trajectory and letting their bloke get there unchallenged and him out of the game. He was also partly to blame for the total cock up of Stevenage’s first goal and didn’t exactly cover himself in glory with the second.

Then again he played a blinder keeping Exeter down to just 2 and, despite us not keeping a clean sheet for how many games now, it’s not all been his fault.

Happy if he starts again, but wouldn’t be disappointed if Rose got a look in. After all, he is our player who we’d expect to still be part of the team next season when Rushworth goes back.

Perhaps it’s just our club that sucks the talent/confidence out of our players?

I’m hoping for all three points for two reasons. (1) I don’t want to see MT sacked, he needs to stay and complete the task he was brought in to do. (2) We need a confidence booster, a win will go a long way to achieving that.
For once, can we play with two strikers up front? Miller and Rodney up top, Wilko on the right and Kiernan left. I don’t care how badly we’re doing, I don’t want to see Shade playing for us again. He’s scored one really good goal, but that doesn’t make him a footballer.
I’m going for a win but that’s with everything crossed!

Im hoping Devante can make an impact and give us a boost. I expect him to start wide right.

I really cant be arsed, but feel a win is overdue for us and we might strike lucky as they arent in the best of forms.

I demand shots on goal at all opportunities with Roberts in goal…

Which one are you on about, Newport or Sutton?

I’d like us to change formation a bit 4-1-3-2 with Miller and Rodney upfront he probably won’t do it though I think that might suit us better

Need to take advantage of robo’s obvious weakness which is low shots with power .

Or just a shot on goal :joy:
