L 2-0 vs Forest Green Rovers (A) - League Two - Sat 9th March, 3pm

We’re P3W2D1L0 at their place so far.

No but the long range forecasts from last weekend were saying it would all change tonight.

And we have three ex FGR in ours!

We have one of theirs, though!

This is a pivotal game. FGR are potentially in a false position and with Cotterill repairing their season’s damage they will need to be reckoned with. But we are a good side with excellent players, playing well. Let them worry about us.
Because of our record against bottom half teams, a win here will be as much, if not more, of a statement than the Mansfield result. It will set us up for a glorious end to the season.

Crikey! I only though of Jamma. I’d be no good at sports quizzes.

Matty Stevens, Oss, and Maddox - but he hasn’t played since the return game at our place in November. Let’s hope the other 2 display the same form as when they were playing for us! :joy:

Picking my ticket up at the FGR ticket office tomorrow.

Not sure how this game will go - FGR form is decent recently + new manager. We play our best when counter attacking, so prepared for us to let them have the ball and hit them on the break - even though they’re 23rd. So I think they’ll be some defending to do. I don’t want us to make the same mistake we did at Sutton away and not respect them. Ideally I’d like us to get in 0-0 at half time, don’t care if FGR look the better side - then show a bit more life once FGR have hufffed and puffed and blown themselves out after half time and score some counter attacking goals.

Looks like we’re going to have some great support tomorrow- looking forward to it. UTS.

I know that is a short sample size, but I find it interesting how clubs build up sequences of results either positive or negative against certain clubs over many years. Even though in most cases, previous games have no bearing at all. For example our record away at Wigan must be awful, I must have been there a dozen times and saw us win once. Got stuffed 3 ,4 and 5 several times.

I haven’t checked but from my own memory it feels like we have a good record at MK Dons and Doncaster since they moved into their current stadiums. Hopefully, that will continue this season!

Away spectators are housed on the West side of the arena, mostly on the open terrace that has a capacity of around 1,000 fans. During the Summer of 2018, a small temporary covered area was installed towards the South Stand, which has a capacity of 200 seats. Although not ideal it at least does provide some shelter on what is otherwise an uncovered terrace. It may also help away fans generate some more noise from that side too as FGR have long complained at the lack of atmosphere generated by visitors to the New Lawn. The entrance to the away terrace is at the back of the stadium from the main entrance and a word of warning to the claustrophobic and/or morbidly obese, the access paths are quite narrow, . Entrance to the ground is via electronic turnstiles, meaning that you need to scan your ticket to gain admittance.

If you are looking for a Meat Pie, Beef Burger or Hot Dog to buy inside the ground, then you will be disappointed, as the Club has decided not to sell any meat products and instead only sell Vegan ones. So on offer, are Veggie Burgers (£5.35), Q-Pies (filled with Premium Quorn £5.45) Halal Chips and Curry Sauce (£4.85), Chip Butties (£3.20) and Devilled Vegan Eggs (£3.75).

My visits to The New Lawn (and the old ground for that matter) have been an absolute hoot and it would be difficult to find a more friendly and welcoming club than this one. If the chance arises, a visit to this Gloucestershire ground is a pleasant days outing in a unique setting.

Where to drink?

There is bar at the ground itself called the Green Climate Conscious Man, which is built into the back of the Main Stand. This bar serves real ale from the Stroud Brewery, hot food is available and it has a number of televisions showing televised sports. However, normally only home fans are admitted. The Club though have set up a small marquee bar for visiting fans which is located near to the away turnstiles.

Maxwell Meadows a visiting Solihull Moors fan adds; ‘We went to a pub called the George, which is on New Market Road around a 15 minute walk from the ground. It is an extremely atmospheric pub serving a good pint of premium lager. It is worth seeking out despite the walk back up the hill. To find this pub from the ground then walk back down the main road towards the town centre. Half way down look out for Burma Road on the right and follow it along into Seven Acres Road. Carry on till you see a pelican crossing on your left heading sharply down the hill. It is a shortcut that leads to the back of The George which is in Newmarket Road. It was a bit of a stiff walk back up to the ground but not as far as from the town centre and at least Burma Road is on the level.’

There are some other pubs and food outlets are at the bottom of the hill in Nailsworth, which is about a 15 minute walk, such as the Britannia on New Market Road. But unless you are rather fit then the walk back up to the ground is not for the faint of heart as it is up a steep hill (takes at least 30 minutes). Alternatively, a five minute drive (or two and a half miles) away from the ground in Nympsfield Village is the Rose and Crown which serves ales that are real and hot food options too. If you have a bit of time on your hands then there is the Village Inn on the A46 on the North side of the town. This pub is well known for its ale being the home of the Keep Brewing Brewery and also shows Sky and Bt Sports.

Colin Scholes a visiting Charlton Athletic fan informs me; ‘We found an outstanding pub in Whiteshill called The Star Inn. It is located around six miles from the ground. The landlord was extremely welcoming and the pub offered several lagers and ciders and a couple of real ales as well, two female sibling dancers known locally as Twin Cheeks were preforming later that evening but unfortunately we had a prior engagement to attend. It was well worth the visit all the same.’

Im in Devon and its seems immensely stormy at the moment, high winds and rain… those fronts deposit right into Gloucestershire so just feeling like its going to be shocking weather…

Really hope not and defer to your more local experience, not sure it makes a difference on the game to be fair.

Question is tomorrow, will Croddy be outed by Dirty Barry’s chanting, we will know where he is standing

I’d forgotten all about Jacob Maddox!
At one point it looked like he could have been a good player for us but just didnt seem to get going or have a run in the team. Doubt he’d play ahead of our central 3 now anyway, with their form!

Hooray my tickets have arrived!

Finally got them this afternoon! No messing about collecting them from their ticket office. Straight in the fan zone for a vegan sausage roll :crazy_face:

One of the lads in our party, forgot to collect his ticket in all the excitement, will they take them down to FGR ticket office for him?
