Think people are getting a little caught up on my comments. I’d like to see some positive results, a few goals to give everyone some belief.

As it stands the majority of people are crying about the lack of quality and lack of strikers. That won’t change no matter how many friendlies we play.

Hence why is said if you know your football.

Still not disagreeing with you. Even in a friendly, I’d much rather see a win than a defeat - but I get all the experimentation etc and won’t get too carried away regardless of the result (either way).

I do though like to see some green shoots. There were some yesterday but more from individual players than the team overall in terms of an MF style of play (which is what I’m hoping to see develop).

Still think we will bring in one two others before the end of the window - and not overly bothered if that is after the start to the season (it’s a marathon not a sprint).

If the opposition were on calipers, I’d expect a better result

Don’t think that’s the case. It’s just a few people repeating themselves.

Nah seen plenty of it.

A good pre season workout, good to see the quality of a PL side first hand even if I’m first gear. Think at this stage there is very little point in drawing too many conclusions, but again you can tell how hard MF has worked on shape and our shape out of possession was excellent and overall we gave a good account of ourselves. Work needs to be done up top to show a bit more devilment and a cutting edge but from MFs post match words that is on hand and will be a key part of this week’s training.

Good to hear Villa have done us a favour over the takings from the game. Thanks, Steven and whoever else sanctioned it. However, if we can believe what it says in the Espresso and Stare, Pomfret was a bit sparing with his thanks - he reported that Villa had taken no funds from the game but I would have expected an expression of gratitude. Am I wrong?

It would be interesting to know if this match and the revenue it creates, is a magnanimous gesture by Villa or it covers the costs to allow Villa ladies to play some of their matches on our pitch.

Perhaps the gate receipts from the friendlies help to compensate for the Villa Women’s team using the stadium, presuming there is no ‘hire’ agreement in place.

Jinx.

It is a classy move from the Villa to be fair.Hopefully it’ll help towards a striker because it’s another thing to add to the list of things we have that other clubs don’t as regards revenue.

Fair play to Villa, we gave them all a good welcome and would have thanked them personally if I saw any of their fans at the game.

Post match debrief:

From some of your other posts, I am fairly sure you are at least part Villa fan.

Fair play to Villa indeed, but there really is no need to post rubbish like that on here.

Yeah fair play to Villla and out of the local clubs they’re the ones I care least about, but no need to go OTT. I also thought it was cringe how the new announcer had so much enthusiasm when announcing the Villa subs/goal scorers.

I can see that going down like a lead balloon when we’re 3-0 down against Rochdale

The bit where he said “LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLEEE!” :sob:

Fair play to villa but I genuinely thought we’d pocket the gate attendance after all we had to pay staff to maintain pitch, serve in kiosks, behind bar etc, electric costs, police/stewarding costs etc etc why should away team have any of the gate money anyway ?

It was not so long ago that the gate receipts were shared in some ratio between the teams for league games but the big clubs lobbied for the home team to keep it all - I wonder why? I think receipts are still shared in the knockout competitions, which is logical.

50 50 after costs.
