League Cup Rd 3 Draw - Leicester City (H) again!

Compared to the top end this is a toilet draw, but compared to the bottom it’s okay. Premiership, sort of local, and beatable.

Always weird when people get upset about emojis. It’s just a mad statement that a Tuesday night game at a knock down price, in the Carabao Cup, probably against a Leicester second string, the second time we have played them in a short amount of time, that won’t sell out, is better than an FA Cup tie in the third round because there will be floodlights :man_shrugging: but each to their own.

Correct, it’s also ok to discuss those opinions, although I know this upsets you.

Ok . :eggplant:. :poop:.

I think its sensible to split the 31 other teams we could have drawn into 3 tiers.

Tier 1. The seeded clubs, plus Wolves for the local factor.
We would sell out at Bescot for any of those games and take at least a couple of thousand to any of them if drawn away.

Tier 2. Any other PL team, Palace, Southampton, Leicester etc plus maybe Stoke, because its localish.
I would expect somewhere between 7 to 8k at Bescot and we would take at least 1k away.

Tier 3.
All the rest.
I doubt whether we would get much more than 5k at home and we would take less than 1k away if drawn with Preston, Bolton or Barrow…

There are some anomalies (Are Everton tier 1 or tier 2).
But I think its broadly accurate.

So not a “shit” draw. IMO

It’s not a draw to get excited about, we don’t get much luck in these draws do we? But you get who you get, I’m glad it is at home and you never know, it could be our lucky night.

I’ve really enjoyed the two cup games this season, could be another great night.

Not the best draw in the world, but at least we’re at home so we have a chance to advance.
Should be a good crowd to get behind the lads, like we always do.

Agree with all of your post, except I don’t rate our chances of advancing very highly.

Granted, I don’t know much about the team Leicester will put out. I assume they will put out a weakened team, with a similar calibre of players to the Southampton team we faced last winter in the FA Cup.
Both clubs were relegated in 2023 and got promoted last season.
We were outclassed by Southampton, I think Leicester will outclass us too.
The (financial) gap between us and even the lower ranked PL teams is enormous.

One good advantage as because it’s not the fa cup , there no money in the cup and no Europe for a winning team Leicester won’t care about doing well so will use reserves and kids so we have a Chance

Don’t get me wrong - I’m happy we’re playing a Premier League team - but the fact we played them a couple of seasons takes any sort of edge off it. I’m not sure how people can’t see that.

Is this winnable? Yes. Is it an exciting tie? No.

Winner of this cup gets into the qualifying rounds for the conference league

Yes - agree with that. But I’m happy to take on anybody at home. Worse would have been Leicester away I think.

Won’t bother the vast majority of premiership teams x

There is a big difference between Ipswich and Leicester.
Ipswich were in League 1 until 2023 and haven’t had years of Premier League riches to invest in their academy and playing staff.

The only way we beat Leicester is they put out a weakened side and our home field advantage, otherwise it’s wait until next year.
As Walsall fans, we hope they do well.
