League Two 24/25 - The Other 23

hopefully only one way they’ll go! Delusions of grandeur

They could go down, which I suppose makes patience a bit more of a luxury. Both Carlisle and Accrington might be in slightly false positions, which worsens their and Morecambe’s position .

They will go down and come back with a new ground , rich owners and 3 x support. Just like every other failed club.

The trouble is, for every Chesterfield & Stockport there are lots of other clubs who just stagnate and are never heard of again.

For example? Lincoln? Shrews? Wrexham? Exeter? Oxford? Tranmere? You can have Scunthorpe ( but they will be back with 3 x support and a new ground).

Southend, Torquay, Hereford, Maidstone, Aldershot, Halifax, Hartlepool, Scarborough, just off the top of my head.

I wouldn’t fancy taking the chance.

And off the top of my head I wouldn’t consider any of them to be big rivals of ours.

I’m a little surprised Swindon sacked Kennedy - I watched them vs Mike Flynn’s Cheltenham and they seemed to have turned the corner. How managers now is that for Swindon?

I didn’t see anything about being rivals mentioned, but Hereford were rivals for sure in the 90s at least.

Ian Holloway leading the race too…

Thank goodness for the stability at WFC…

Holloway a done deal apparently.
Fans on the Swindon forums are gutted :joy:

Could easily be the next league stalwart to drop into non league, Holloway couldn’t keep Grimsby up a few years ago.

Holloway has had 989 games as a manager during his career.

Given the frequency that Swindon change managers, I wonder whether he’ll make it to 1,000 with them.

Yeah. I thought relly to the Fourth Division would be a good chance for us to regroup and bounce back in one or two seasons. That went well.
It’s looking better for us now but for a while it looked as if it could have gone the other way and we could be playing our friends from Hartlepool and Southend.

Could work out for them. Like Major Frank Buckley for us a couple of years ago.

…Darlington, Southport, Chester and Kidderminster. Now contempories of Rushall Olympic

It might or might not be interesting to note that Lincoln and Grimsby have both had two spells in non-league since relegation was introduced (Lincoln, I think, were first to go down automatically) and so there is no guarantee it will turn out right first time if at all. It took Barrow the best part of five decades to get back, and Stockport needed eleven seasons, and they went down again before coming back up.
Hartlepool are currently on their second spell in non-league. The Dosh promotion season they finished a point behind us in second place.

Like you, I think we’re better off clinging on by our fingernails if it comes down to it. :grimacing:

Oh dear, what an awful appointment.

It is incredibly hard to get out of the National League with only one automatic promotion spot.

If we had dropped out over recent years where we have never really looked in real danger of it, but too close for comfort at some points. I think we’d have been more likely to get relegated again than come right back up.

Also not sure we would have grown much by going out of the league, I think the increased support for some of these clubs is from the ambition they show. I think it is underestimated how important ambition is to fans. We have had far too many years happy to tread water, which ultimately lead us to where we are. It’s looking a bit better now but it has taken a long time.
