League Two Play-Off Final - Mansfield Town vs Port Vale - Sat 28th May, 4pm

He can laugh as much as he likes, the plain fact is people were glad to see the back of him.

A lovely interview from him. I’m genuinely pleased for him. Emotional Darrell Clarke dedicates Port Vale win to tragic daughter Ellie, 18 - Stoke-on-Trent Live

My personal problem with him was his tactics and him changing players after half an hour because he’d got it wrong also his post match interviews were more often than not a disaster. As for today I do not begrudge him that at all he’s lost a child and nothing can prepare anyone for that plus you shouldn’t have to bury your children it’s not suppose to work like that,he’s having success hope he enjoys it.

After what he’s been through, I can’t begrudge Daryll Clarke’s this moment of success.

He has a good managerial record - but it just simply didn’t work out for him at Walsall, and I bear no animosity to him for that. He was backed to build a team, but signings didn’t ultimately work out, and once his leading striker was sold to balance the books, it was clear to him he wasn’t going to get success at Walsall. All he did was do what we’d all do - go somewhere else and work for someone who will give you the resources you need to do your job to the best of your ability.

You can twist the story anyway you want, attribute his success to others, say he had xxx amount of budget etc etc

The 2 undeniable facts are; most of us wanted to see the back of him or at best were not too upset to see him go, and that he has gone on and achieved similar to what he has at every club apart from us since leaving - which I for one am not the least bit surprised about.

What is the common denominator ?

It’s the very same common denominator that will hinder us into next season and beyond :joy: not sure how much more evidence we need tbh

Rent free in some of their fans heads

But that is the tribal nature of football Sid.

Can’t blame them though, can ya. It’s what makes football what it is,
I’d rather congratulate them than be bitter about it. They have their morons and they also have many decent supporters that choose to support a lower league club through thick and thin, exactly as we have.

The only thing I take from it is that of a team as truly bang average as Port Vale can get promoted from this division, what a damning indictment of our last three seasons :man_shrugging:

At least the scousers lost there is a god after all Courtois was sensational by the way.

And that is the damning indictment about Walsall FC over the last 5 seasons: our recruitment has just not been good enough. A lot of money has been wasted on the likes of Guthrie, Gaffney, Ash Taylor, Labadie and opportunities missed to get good young players like Barry and Azaz in on loan. But at the end of the day, we just haven’t invested enough in the playing squad to finish higher than 12th in Division 4! But, when you have to fork out half a million quid every season to play in your own stadium, before a ball is kicked, then you start with a massive disadvantage. We need to change that before we will find success.

Heysel 1985, Hillsborough 1989, Paris 2022: I wonder what the common denominator is?!!!

Is it poorly planned and badly executed security measures, Tone?

Could be…or it could be something else!!
