Nobody did that. I said if he is no better, I’d be worried.
Guess we’re not signing sawyers .
I think we offer an opportunity for Lewis to relaunch his career. Hope he takes it with both hands.
It isn’t always all about you.
I agree, too. He doesn’t stand out as a real quality signing, just a fairly run-of-the-mill League 2 player. I was hoping that we would go for that Stoke CDM who was on loan to Swindon last season - he seemed to be an upgrade on Comley. My feeling is that Sadler rates Comley and Warrington will be his back-up - I’m not sure that I’m totally happy with that. But, I hope I’m proved wrong.
Seems a similar type of player like Adam Chambers if he is a holding midfielder
“Nobody”
All of those statements are correct and none of them are saying he will definitely be better. He may be better or worse, but Comley is a very low bar and if he doesn’t pass it we are in trouble.
Got a good pedigree and has a lot of experience for his age. Importantly as well he is young enough to play the SadzBall midfielder role. Looks a good fit on paper, and very pleasantly surprised he is on a permanent too.
Seems like another “risk signing” that follows the recruitment model. He is young with a PL academy up bringing but has struggled to make much of an impact in last couple of seasons. Would be good to hear what Fleetwood fans thought of him from season long loan in 22/23 (when they were in L1)… jury’s out for me, clearly Stirk replacement and Sadlers update on Sawyers would suggest that ship has sailed and I would also now not expect to see the “Sloan paper talk” turn into anything…. Hope a 2 year deal gives Lewis the solid foundation to re-start his career with us … welcome and good luck
It would appear holding midfielders don’t have highlight reels, unless he plays Rugby League as a sideline
I know that he is playing as a CDM, but the Everton links remind me of when we signed Ant Gerrard and Danny Fox. Fox, in particular, was a terrific player for Walsall and Gerrard did a good job in league two.
Given the choice between Stirk, Sawyers & Warrington I’d go for Warrington. Ok Sawyers is better technically than those 2 but I think Warrington will have energy and aggression and hopefully more ability going forward than Stirk.
Well that’s a real insight Andy…
I took from it that we are not the only ground with stanchions
Yeah, best that no one has an opinion on anything, ever.
Zidane is a bit old now too.
Hmm might need to send the “whack,” man .
40 games for Fleetwood in 22/23 in league one.
Then spent a season on loan at Plymouth in championship but only played twice there, assume injuries?
Then moved to Orient and struggled to play there (they have plenty of quality in midfield) but went to Salford for second half of last season and their form picked up and just missed out on top 7.
He’s moved around the country a fair bit for someone who is only 22 so this feels the sort of signing DS would’ve made in his time, give a young player some security and feeling of a permanent home and hopefully being settled will pay off on the pitch.
I assume he is in to play Comley’s role. Get the feeling the club are expecting Lakin to get better with more games and chip in with goals like he did at Sutton United. That is probably a gamble currently but if he scores a few early he could do better than people expect.
This is a great signing, a player with lots of experience at a higher level and the real bonus is it’s not a loan but a permanent so we don’t have to worry about January.
The good thing for me is he’s been in a prem academy but actually wanted to go out and play games for teams right across the U.K. Plenty would just prefer to coast in prem academies up to that age and turn down loan moves if they’re the other end of the country.
He did well at Fleetwood, not sure what happened at Plymouth and then he was probably unlucky at Orient who are on the rise and already have lots of good CMs. Then went to Salford and their form picked up when he started playing.
Don’t think a side who is in league two for a seventh successive season can turn their noses up at someone who was picked up by championship club two years ago.
