I really like the current model of recruitment, but it shouldn’t be the ‘be all and end all’. We’re crying out for some proven quality at this level and we shouldn’t need the super computer to find likely difference makers. Again, it’s another learning curb that the club don’t seem to have taken this summer.
I don’t think many would disagree that the make up of the squad will see us be competitive, and that’s where the model is working. Even if we identified one area per summer to really push the boat out and get in some genuine quality to take us to the next level
I suppose a slight contradiction is getting the likes of Hall and Lowe on board. Genuinely quality players but with caveat of them not being out own coupled with Hall’s injury record and there being no guarantee at the time that Lowe would be as brilliant as he was
Exactly. We saw last season that the way we play is all about energy all over the pitch, we saw how badly it affected us when we lost that bit of energy second half of the season.
Surprised so many want Sawyers, he won’t have that. I’m not against signing him, but not if it’s damaging the budget meaning less signings that we’re after.
I know very little about the bloke, but I have faith in our recruitment team, given some of the talent we have bought in the last couple of summer windows.
The argument with Sawyers is that we wouldn’t need the high energy, outrunning style of football if we have an experienced, calm presence running the midfield.
Hartlepool fans can realise that when in the team Danny Johnson scored regularly.
DJ was unwanted for the last 18 months, Warrington was given chances by Orient and then Salford and had twice as much time on the pitch as Johnson last season. He did not make a single assist last season
It looks like a good signing; it’s just hard to shake the feeling that his career wasn’t going in the right direction. At least he probably knows what it’s like to play in the lower leagues, so it shouldn’t come as a shock. He’s probably that steel in the midfield.
But that wasn’t there first choice they wanted to loan him out, as MS said he could have been with us a couple of weeks ago but we pushed for a permanent signing
So you could argue we could have had him on loan and picked him up for free next summer when he was out of contract. But we evidently rate him enough to secure him now.
Also could argue that Orient wanted him on loan so they could call him back or offer a new contract in the summer if his performances warrant it. So they didn’t cast him out so to speak
In truth none of us know the facts but on the surface it seems there is a lot of faith been placed on him
