Only 1 game, but interesting that all 4 promoted league 2 teams won Friday/yesterday in league 1.
Yes also big spenders last seasons compare that to this season and it’s night and day. It’s a very poor league this year with hardly any big spenders.

I think it’s only right that Jellis gets another special mention for his performance yesterday. He was an absolute power house and covered every blade of grass. Given the fact he was still carrying the effects of a virus, just think how good he will be when fully fit.
He has set himself one hell of a bar to keep playing to every week. If he can add some goals to his game for us as well, we could have one hell of a player on our hands.

Agreed, he gave the opposition a hell of a time
Thought he was excellent but on several occasions wen he got the ball back his brain didn’t take that key pause to allow him to make a good next action and he rushed it giving the ball away and overhitting couple of passes and crosses. That is something Knowles never grew out of. Hopefully Jellis will. Good debut though.

No debrief today, most of our lot in Bury St Edmunds on a stag do so I’ll give you my thoughts taking the emotion out of the event nearly a day later.
An almost perfect start, win and a clean sheet. Really can’t ask for much more than that, not a single save for super Tommy Simkin to make either. To a man I thought we were magnificent particularly in the light of the virus that has been going around the camp in the week preceding. Our shape off the ball was a joy to watch and even when we tired as would be expected in the 2nd half Morecambe were just met with a wall of Saddlers shirts that simply would not be breached.
My Leamore Windows match hero was Josh Gordon (although there were several worth candidates), he was a constant menace and I imagine the Morecambe defence will be having nightmares about him for weeks to come. Sadler said he was ‘incredible’ and I wouldn’t disagree. Shame on the boo boys prior to kick off, if you were one of those who booked his name, hang your heads in shame.
S&S Steelstock match rating was an 8, tougher tests to come and we need some reinforcements up top to take on some of the better sides but the keeper, defence and midfield are well set for a season challenging those players off places.

A win and a clean sheet on the opening day, can’t complain with that. However disappointing to see we’re still not bothering to have possession. I know it doesn’t win you games but the style of play really frustrates me.
Happy with the new boys, thought they looked exciting, Barrett and Jellis looked good. Some of Adomah’s passing was great, just a shame some players can’t see the pass but hopefully that comes with time.
On the plus side, this Morecambe side is exactly the kind of side we’d have lost to last season.
Lastly, own up if you booed Josh Gordon before kick off and explain why you think that’ll benefit anyone? Am I happy he’s a starter? No, but get behind the lad don’t hammer him before he’s even stepped foot on the pitch. Brainless.

You can only beat what’s in front of you, which we did, comfortably. Were Morecambe poor, or did we make them so, especially in the first half? Time and games will tell. Positives: great team spirit and effort, Barrett, Jellis and Lakin looked good additions, nice to see Albert briefly, though he should have seen red for the reckless and dangerous challenge . Negatives: Gordon L still can’t cross the ball despite good play in the build up. He might be pressed by Weir if he turns out well?

I’ve just had a look on there, and although there is a tile for the full match replay, when you choose it, it says you need to be a subscriber to access. So, I went to the subscriptions section and all it has as options are the monthly or season audio pass, no video pass?!?
So, I’m not sure how you are meant to watch the match back the next day or after that, even when they have uploaded it onto the site.
For the last few seasons, having the audio membership was enough to be able to watch the full match replays. I haven’t renewed my audio membership this season so I don’t know whether that still applies.
We shouldn’t be blaming HIM, it’s the club and Sadler’s fault

Same problem for me JJ. I have the annual audio pass but it kept telling me to log in, which I already was. Not too bothered for yesterday’s match because I was there, but hope it gets sorted for future games. Couldn’t see anywhere I could raise the issue with Saddlers+ or whoever runs it either.
I think you play him along side a goalscorer and the work he does will be more appreciated and noticable.

Good to get a win first game. Obviously we’ll face much tougher games than Morecambe. Desperately need strengthening up front.
