Morecambe match off?

We’ve been discussing on a WhatsApp group about the likelihood of Walsall v Morecambe being called off due to the unrest over the past few days. Maybe there will be a shortage of police to cover the game. Also there is a hotel right next to the ground full of asylum seekers Could be a recipe for disaster, thousands of disappointed football fans after the game and somewhere to take their revenge right next door.

Would Walsall fans really be that stupid ?
We wouldn’t would we :frowning:

A protest was tried there on match day before and failed miserably

Will the police see it that way? Apparently these right wing thugs travel from a distance for these protests/riots. You can imagine them looking at the situation in Walsall as an ideal opportunity.

No need to worry, no one will be targeted, especially the Morecambe goal area.

I think from the clubs perspective it would be a blessing in disguise if it was cancelled as it’s an extra week to get injured players back and loan a kid striker from Birchills

I assume the Police have some sort of intelligence on the plans of these thugs.
I believe that they have infiltrated them in the same manner that they did with the football “firms”.

I guess that the chances of the game being cancelled depends on what info the Police have.

Lets hope everything in Walsall and elsewhere is calm and without incident.

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with the Birchills!

I think you are supposed to call them “irregular migrants” these days, Sid!

Born on the Mossley, but lived in Burrowes Street from the age of 9 to 21.

Be a shame if the match got called off because a bunch of massive racists decided their need for throwing bricks and shouting abuse was a great way of demonstrating their patriotism.

Indeed and got massively outweighed by a counter protest as well. Felt quite proud of the people of Walsall that day.

Used to go to Bentley moor club in the 60/70s every Saturday Sid when the bingo came on high tail down to the little pub on Wolverhampton road Cottagge I think not sure though, loads of oldies and a fantastic piano player having a right old singalong that good sometimes didn’t go back to the club .great area the Birchills great mates from that way .

I think if Walsall’s game is called off, there will be more in places more likely to be riotous.

Morecambe aren’t kicking off , only be about 10 of them

We used to go to the Navigation Inn - I played crib for the pub in the late ‘70s. Good times!

If you want one for his nob take it to messages. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

On the match, I think it will be OK.

Lack of Morecambe fans means tht the police mission is quite straightforward.

There’s also an emphasis upon the club (and that includes us lot) to make it clear that racists have no place in our home. And to be clear - if you’re worried about immigration and you’d like a proper debate about its impacts then you are not a racist. If you feel a desire to physically attack somebody because they have difference colour skin then you are indeed a racist and shouldn’t set foot inside the Bescot.
