I also think I will ask if they are going to build a solar farm on the carparks. It could generate income and make use of the land more … plus close to M6 for those who need to top up. They have them in loads of places basically a big shelter with panels on the top and space to park underneath… could also help the market as the they would only need to put tables out rather than the whole covered stand

Surely that has been true for the whole of history?

I’ve never once brought away tickets because “the view will be nice”

True but I’m not sure why we need to rebuild the whole stand for that

Who used some of the home end because that’s half empty too. I think we have sold out 3 times in the last decade. I’m not sure the income from one off ties justifies the outlay.

Id suggest you’re getting way ahead of yourself

Again, once a year, and I’m not sure the England games sell out either.

Looks like yet another example of you not understanding the point being made

Couldn’t care less. You are one person

Good job it wasn’t a point made in isolation then

Good job it’s not one off occasion then

I’d suggest it was a response to a point made to K C

No not once a year. Villa ladies. Friendlies v Lazio and Bilbao and again it’s not a point in isolation

By asking a question? :joy: Looks like yet another example of using an irrelevant cop out. I really don’t think I have “missed the point” that we are in the midlands, but there we are.

Nah, you’re right. I bet loads of people do :+1:

No, that is why I literally answered all of them :joy:

… what? 3 times in a decade? Do you know how much that income compares to the outlay of a stadium rebuild? Just stop and think about it for a second.

In a forum, where everyone can respond.

Which don’t sell out either. They don’t even play at our ground anymore. But I’ll give you a couple of cheap friendlies.

No by missing the point being made

Agreed

With reasoning that considered them in isolation

Ahh I see the problem. You’ve gone from me wondering if there were any plans for ground development to assuming I want to bankrupt the club. I was just interested to know if there any plans, whether it is financial sensible is another debate.

Of course, and I can highlight the flawed thinking in your response. The point being made is if you wait to expand capacity until demand exceeds supply you can’t capture that demand.

Nothing to do with me thinking we are on the verge of the play offs

Or you were wrong

Nope. It’s just one of the things you say when a (massive) hole in you logic is pointed out.

Yeah. I’m forever coming across couples at away days, laying out picnic blankets and taking in the view at Bradford away. Heart warming.

Doesn’t even make literal sense.

Surely that has to be part of it? I mean, if money is no object then you’d do million of things, but it is? We may as well build a 100 thousand seater stadium, and drive every single fan to the ground in rolls royces, and feed them a dinner prepared by Gordon Ramsey if we are not being financially sensible.

In your own time:

Where can you put the ground that’s any more central than it already is ?
It’s not a long walk to the town , a 10 minute at most bus ride we’re right by the train station and the longest motorway on the country
Can hardly have better access and be more visible

I think he means central to the country, for away fans. Why that justifies building a new away end I don’t know.

But then I “missed the point” :man_shrugging:

Agreed

Sure :joy: :+1:

I think removing the stanchions from all over the ground would be a better redevelopment. It would modernise the stadium and make it a better viewing experience for all.

The ground is hardly (if ever half full) it would be a total waste of money. It would take god knows how long to make back in revenue.

Yes that would be great if that could happen

Can you not imagine a scenario where crowds increase?

We’ve been there before though Andy. In our last short stay in Tier 2 football we rarely had a game where we needed a capacity larger than the Bescot. Even when the clubs with significant support came to play and we provided 2k to 3k tickets for them, we accommodated them in the away end and family stand and can’t think of many occasions where we filled out “our” seats.

That is not to say we should not be seeking to grow our fanbase. Of course we should. But i don’t see the demand there for a larger stadium yet.

Couple of points here

Firstly I only said I was interested if there were plans for ground redevelopment. I’m not saying spades have to put into the ground overnight. But It would be give some indication of where Trivela plan to take us.

Secondly Trivela seem to want to grow the club and take us somewhere new. All the arguments seem to be along the lines of ‘we don’t sell out now’, or ‘we didn’t 20 years ago in the championship’ I fully get that but the past doesn’t have to be the same as the future. There are loads of reasons why we could get bigger crowds going forwards. Never mind the extra arguments about other non Walsall fc uses of the ground.

Remember Drogheda are building a new ground, so it’s not a silly question to ask what Trivelas plans for the Poundland are.

If we were starting from scratch and had that opportunity then i agree we should look to a slightly larger capacity but we need to put in the hard slog of developing the fanbase to warrant that.

As i mentioned ages ago and others have to, we should devote some time to talking to clubs who have done well to build their fanbase in recent years - Chesterfield, Notts County, Stockport, Rotherham, Exeter and Lincoln etc. to take any learning points we can.

We don’t want a Darlington Reynolds Arena type white elephant but i can see something like Doncaster’s stadium being suited to us if we ever build a new stadium.

Yes I accept your points and I’m not certainly not advocating knocking down the Poundland and replacing it with a 30000 capacity ground as the way forward.

However I do think the ground should be developed. Personally I would like to see a new away stand, but fully appreciate other points of view such as @cats where the stanchions were removed around the ground. I’d be in favour of that too.

Rather than rebuilding the away end totally, maybe the club should look into building an extension of it outwards onto the away car park, which is mostly empty most of the time anyway, and create a bigger bar area similar to what the club did for our supporters with The Hub at the back of the lower stand, and that could become somewhere that away fans can spend more of their money on drinks and food as there aren’t that many pubs around our ground so could be a good money earner.

The only way it would make sense for me is if it brings some sort of profit quickly and reliably without relying on growing the fan base as that may not happen.

If there was an angle that allowed us to generate advertising revenue, maybe an indoor market or something, locker type venue for away fans.

If not, I think it’d make us a big loss.
