New time keeping approach for 2023-24 season

Our Owen will be stuffed!!!

That’ll means I’ll regularly miss the 17:03 train to Cannock…and the17:13 to Lichfield from Crewe.

Probably means the gates on the Retail Park will be shut before evening matches finish

Wonder if premier league will follow or will it be too much for their players, like the fa cup

Will it affect Knowles with his antics on the pitch?

That’s a good thing.

The ball is often only in play for around 55 minutes. In some games even less.

Ultimately, I’d like the game to be 35 minutes each way, with a big clock that everybody can see being stopped every time the ball is dead.

Great! Way too much time lost to faffing around.

I hope referees will also start taking seriously the deliberate delaying of free kicks: it’s absolutely endemic at every level, although it diminishes as you descend the Pyramid (as with most gamesmanship, like tactical fouling). Refs are supposed to give a yellow for deliberate delay but almost never do unless the actual kick is interfered with by a player less than 9m away. If nothing else, they should penalise players who approach, often from yards away, to delay the kick.

Slightly OT, the other thing that is rarely given is a foul throw.

Also new rules on pitch encroachment

I noticed that, too. It’s a bit more understandable as, with a few exceptions, the average throw in is mainly designed just to restart the game. The same applies to some free kicks, but not so many. Most free kicks are tactical and represent an element of hazard: they are supposed to give an advantage i.e. they are much more important. It’s about time referees started applying the rules that exist: players of the offending team should immediately retreat 9 metres. It says immediately, so, at the very least, any player deliberately approaching the ball should be booked.

I’d settle for making them be taken from the right place, especially when defenders Nick 15 yards from a throw by their own corner flag.
