Newport County (A) Monday April 21st, 12.30pm

Tbf his weaker foot crosses were on par with Gordons good foot crosses.

The Newport played the ball, but he made no contact with Taylor Allen, whose acting got him sent off.

Simkin was reckless. He kicked his opponent on the side of the head

Great point Peel85! Liam Gordon has been poor both defensively and offensively since he came back from his last international jaunt. I get that he might be jaded after a long season, so why traipse half way around the world at a crucial stage of the season? It’s backfired totally!

He’s been really poor for 2 months - I’m not surprised, he’s had zero rest and pretty much no back up all season.

Another Trivela/Sadler mismanagement fault.

I don’t get the Simkin debate. It was a 50:50 ball. What did we expect him to do? Let it bounce? Avoid the challenge and politely give way - “after you” and allow the striker a clear run on goal.

Can you imagine the uproar had he not made the challenge.

I couldn’t speak for an hour after it. Gutted.

Maybe, but we are pretending one is good and one isn’t.

(Apart from scoring the equaliser in our last game. Being Liam Gordon this is of course immediately forgotten)

Yes he did and amount of contact is irrelevant to the act.

There are lots of 50-50 head high balls in every match, but usually the players contest them with their heads, not with their boots. Some goalkeepers think that the laws of football do not apply to them. Imagine if central defenders launched head high kicks every time there was a 50-50 ball.

Does that mean we’re actually gonna get a win by scoring more goals than the opposition Tone?…on ya bike fella!

Since when have you had to break someone’s ankle or leg for it to be a sending off? It was dangerous, and he wasn’t in control.

Agree we got lucky with this one. Any other position makes that challenge and it’s a red.

We should of put a bigger bid in for Freddie..

Don’t get me wrong Gordon is a decent player for this level, but has limited end product and also defensively below par. But he does have the ability to glide past players with ease but again it normally ends with a weak shot or a cross that fails to beat the first defender.

In what respect? He wins the ball, he has an exceptional number of turnovers, his disciplinary record is exemplary for a defender, he covers the entire back line, and is at times our sole defender when attacking corners. I just don’t see it. It’s become perceived wisdom recently based on the old “he failed to stop a cross” which has happened to every full back in the world multiple times.

In the respect that defending isn’t his strongest attribute. Especially recently his defending has been erratic and simply not good enough.

Most fans don’t think we’re going to win 2. They hope we will. You have to hope or what’s the point?

To be fair, I’ve been saying it for nearly 3 years :joy:

Ok. I mean I have just given examples of why I disagree, but your opinion and all that :+1:
