Newport County (H) Tue 20th Aug, 7.45pm

Do people really think 3 years of mismanagement, are going to be turned around in 3 months?

I’m here for the long game. It’s an ok start, and D.C. needs time to sort this mess out.

Well I don’t expect us to have an edge over them because we are historically a League One team, I expect us to have an edge over them because we are a newly relegated side from the level above that has had backing and a manager who has been allowed to sign the players he wants to, according to the chairman.

Were Forrest Green for example really that amazing?

These lot play 433 (I think). So I think D.C. will therefore go with the 352 - or maybe match them 433/4231.

I’d like to see Adebayo, Hardy and Guthrie (if fit) in tonight.

You can see the logical holes in that though, yes?

Nope.

‘Chairman says’ … therefore it magically confers an edge?

Don’t think so.

Division above is entirely irrelevant and may easily be a disadvantage, just as Premier teams find it difficult to compete effectively in the Championship.

The players are as yet unproven as a part of this team to any meaningful degree.

= No default edge.

The Championship is widely regarded as an incredibly tough league. I’m not sure League Two has the same reputation to be honest.

I do think so, sorry. If that’s what is stated and is genuine, then I see no reason why the fans shouldn’t expect it. Unless he’s just saying words with no meaningful plan on how to achieve that. Didn’t we used to slate certain board members for coming out with aims that were never meaningfully worked towards?

What is the current longest match thread on this forum?
I’m here for the long haul.

It’s a different style league though, at least to some extent, which can make it challenging. I don’t think this will naturally confer an advantage on newly relegated teams as a rule.

I think the chairman is talking up promotion chances, not because of some nefarious scheme, but simply to be positive and upbeat.

I understand your position, and have a different view. I don’t think it’s that far off though and if we’re in the lower half after 12 games then I agree that would be disappointing.

Hope everybody makes the effort to get down to the Bescot tonight. It’s going to be a tough game against tough opposition. The team will need all our support in this time of transition UTS

Not long at all. Looked nailed on for relegation when he took over and managed to keep us up by the skin of our teeth.
Didn’t have the luxury of 10-12 games to settle down.

Different scenario, and a different league, me old mucka

I’ll be going. Hoping for a win as I can’t see us getting anything at Plymouth but Newport are a good team so I’d take a point

Can’t beat a bit of in depth analysis followed by a clear conclusion. You should be a scientist .

I don’t profess to watch an awful lot of League Two football, I’ve only seen the 4 teams we have played so far, but I really don’t see that many differences in style to what we saw in League One. More miss placed passes and everybody has a lump centre forward is about as far as I can tell.

Fair enough, we will indeed see. I hope it does click, who knows we could go out tonight and batter Newport and everything is hunky dory for a few weeks or so. I just haven’t been encouraged so far. Some might see that as impatience, I’ll still be there supporting the team and Clarke for the full 90.

Yeah they are a big physical team…so it looks like it will be a battle. We know our team can battle so hopefully with home advantage and if we all get behind the team. We can get 3points.

I am going for a very tight 1-0 win, with Lavery scoring the winner. 4266 in attendance.

Ancient Moaner, sorry, I mean Worsul4eva to complain afterwards about foul mouthed supporters, after inadvertently sitting just in front of a group from the Walsall Tourette’s Society’s enjoying a social evening at the footy.
