The football we are attempting to play is 100% better than anything we saw under DC but in the final 3rd we are just clueless and that’s all down to Clarke.
The main problem for me is the midfield. We’ve got plenty of cover but they all do the same job. We played some decent stuff yesterday, up until the final third where we are bereft of ideas. I like Vincent, and feel he has improved us, but he doesn’t provide any variety.
The general plan last night seemed to be to get the wing backs forward and get the ball in the box. The fact that none of our midfielders are the type to break forward and make late runs means we are almost always left with one, at the most two players in the opposition box. Given the size and stature of our forwards, it’ll take a miracle for us to get on the end of anything
Agree with all of that. I thought we played some good football last night and the improvement over three matches has been remarkable. I do think Holden and Wright will make big improvements in areas where we are weaker. Too late for this season’s promotion prospects but I do reckon we have turned the corner.
I just wish we would stop giving away a goal in every match,
What’s your issue with it specifically? I thought Norman was (yet again) one of our few better players.
Norman Melbourne and Roberts last night for me
Exactly tells you all you need to know.
My assumption is that Reid is only here to cover injuries - since we have so few strikers, if Lavery or Gordon were to pick up season-ending injuries we’d need a replacement.
Not really. I think he’s been good in there as he has been at right back all season.
I note you haven’t voted on the POTS thread. Any reason?
He went in Jan.
Yes he was , he’s one of the few who have been decent all season ,
He’s been awful there.
Okay.
(Thought he was one of our few better performances)
And then:
Set up our only decent chance in the second half from that position. Nicked the ball high up with good pressing and got it through to Lavery.
Cameron Norman isn’t the issue here.
I’m not sure but in 97-98 we scored 26 at Home, but 12 of those came in the first six games, so 14 in the next 17. We were chronic at times under BFJ. But we were also really good at other times.
I think in 90-91 we had six consecutive blanks in Home games.
It’s not just him - its the whole lot of em.
I’ve explained on other threads why he isn’t a defensive midfielder.
Describing one instance is not enough. Look at the whole play.
I think he’s done a decent job, certainly not awful.
I think he adds physicality in there, something very important in this league and something we’ve missed for … the entirety of Clarke’s reign, hence the Sherron loan signing last year.
Not good enough.
You’re settling for second best.
He’s not a defensive midfielder.
Yeah, just repeat it, that answers the point
