Notts County (A) January 1st, 3pm

This game has got to be in the gravest of danger with the weather forecast. I think a sensible decision should be made for the benefit and safety of all players, officials and spectators today.

Phew! Was getting concerned for your wellbeing over the festive period, perhaps too much port and wine at Crod mansion ? How’s the mistress, hope Santa emptied his sack for her.

Why? For the rain leading up to the game? I’m sure they have adequate pitch covers and people can just be advised to wear coats :umbrella::cloud_with_rain:

If the game is on and that’s a massive IF, spectators might find the below information handy.

Away fans are housed on one side of the Jimmy Sirrel Stand, located on one side of the ground. The normal allocation for this area will be around 1,300, although this can be increased for cup games.

On my last visit, I was very impressed with the standard of the ground. The views were generally good and the concourse was spacious. I was quite impressed also to see a proper queueing system in place for refreshments. I wish more clubs would do this as I hate the scrum-around kiosks that are commonplace at most other Clubs. The Club offers a range of Pukka Pies costing £4.50 each, as well as Cheeseburgers (£5.70), Burgers (£4.80), Veggie Burgers (£5.50) and Hot Dogs (£4.65). The only disappointments were that the substantial supporters club didn’t allow in away supporters and that the ground generally lacked atmosphere. The Club also allow away fans who wish to, have a cigarette at half-time in a designated smoking area. A visit to Meadow Lane is usually a hassle-free and enjoyable day out.

Harry ‘The Big Dog’ McLaren a visiting Hartlepool United fan adds; ‘The stewards at the back of the away section let us stand and even joined in with some friendly banter, which was an added treat. There was a reasonable number but they kept a low profile and let the fans enjoy themselves. Overall they were a credit to the club and made the day an absolute hoot!’

Away spectators MUST enter Meadow Lane via the turnstiles on County Road. They are housed in the Jimmy Sirrel Stand, good behaviour is strongly encouraged. Opposite is the Derek Pavis Stand, which has the main reception for player and staff arrivals. Home fans enter here via turnstiles 1-10.

Overall, there are 51 turnstiles around the ground at Meadow Lane. They are located in all four corners, along with turnstiles 19-31, which are directly behind the Jimmy Sirrel Stand.

There are a number of away friendly pubs near Meadow Lane, all of which cater to different needs. Please note, however, that most bars require club colours to be covered as a mark of respect and some do not allow children irrespective of their age or their general conduct.

Latest weather forecast is that the wind and rain will have cleared Nottingham well before the game so all those going should be ok. I was rather hoping the conditions would stay rough because I think it would suit us more than them. A really tough game…a draw would be a great result.

When we thrashed county 5-1 there was a flash thunderstorm before the game. It’s a positive omen

Wish I could go, not been to County since that Trevor Benjamin goal, but skivved work for Newport, so can’t do it again :joy:.

Even though we’re so far out I still see this as a key match, win this and it puts us 15 clear of a team who will probably finish 2nd or 3rd, can’t see us f’ing it up from there.

We would never play a game if it was left to you

We managed to complete the games in really bad conditions v Vale and Harrogate, and in the mist v Doncaster. Im sure it will be fine.

Unsure if it will be open, but for Saddlers travelling by train, immediately as you exit the station on the left side is the Brew Tavern bar, only a small place (used to be a taxi office) but has a great and varied selection of cask and keg on, and quite often some daft sour smoothie on the gloop tap available.

It’s my post work refreshment point before the train.

The Vat and Fiddle across the road from the station is a decent Castle Rock pub as well.

They don’t let in anyone under 18, either inside or outside.
Bit strange as there will be families travelling through the station.

No problem at the Vat & Fiddle

Happy New Year all you glorious Saddlers.

Safe travells to all those in our barmy army going tomorrow.

The boys have been great for us this year, but at some point will need some help, so remember, if it isn’t going well sing louder, every misplaced pass or error sing louder, every goal conceded SING LOUDER.

They deserve it😀

That’s what I mean

Don’t we traditionally win these New Year’s Day games 6-1?
I don’t think we should break with tradition!
