Simkin pulls his arm back and punches crosses like you’d punch a boxing ball machine at a fairground, this is hard to get right, all he has to do is ensure he makes contact to direct it to safety.
I wish he’d do just that it’s not as hard to master and more often than not ends up safe.
He over complicates it imo.
Having missed the game or even followed it, I’ve consumed everything I can this morning.
Chuffed for George Hall and hope last night gives him confidence to keep adequately covering for Jellis (note for the Nott’s County manager - that’s Jellis, possibly our POTS who was out injured last night along with others - we didn’t have a “full squad to choose from” you balloon) .
Chuffed for you lot who were there. Quite the ride. I missed you all.
Short term concern is the goals we’re conceding and Simkin in particular.
Medium concern is Lowe. Such quality, so many goals. I hope Stoke reflect and see how much good the loan is doing all three parties.
But a brilliant win during a time when our form has dropped a tad.
And so onto Vale - oh my. Let’s get those last couple of hundred tickets gone and have a right good go.
Question for those at the game. Did it look like there were 57 hundred in the ground? Didn’t appear so watching on the telly.
Don’t forget ST holders are counted whether they are there or not. Seat’s paid for so it’s chalked up.
No chance, was a bit disappointed when I got into the stand because I thought this would be a decent draw for people, County never had 1200 either.
Only took about 5 mins to get off the retail park too, usually a good indication of attendance.
That third goal really is a lovely bit of play (including from the unfairly maligned Stirk and Earing, who started the season sensationally in my opinion and was unlucky not to get more game time, then got some harsh criticism on the back of two admittedly poor performances).
Yes, hence my question, did it look like there were 57 hundred IN the ground
Far less people in Block 5 lower last night than Saturday. There were people in the family stand last night of course.
Hall looked a bit tentative first half last night, almost as if he was scared to give it 100% full gas but 2nd half he showed his speed and skill, good goal too.
Defence was good even though at times Dave looked like he was playing in clogs and always seems to have a mistake in him but he did make some vital blocks and clearances.
Lowe as always right time right place but he could have had a couple more if he had his shooting boots on.
Bring on Saturday. Last time I went to Vale we beat them 5-0 (2015?) what i would give for a repeat performance.
I prefer to be at a game watching it than on tv.
Looking at some of the attendances last night though you wonder if the clubs misjudged just how much of an impact games being live on tv would have on them.
Limit Mcoldrick and they’re not much special
In my opinion. Means a point from Vale would be a solid one off the back of 3 points here.
That result has convinced me that promotion is highly likely if we keep hold of Lowe.
My time as a Saddler goes back to the back end of Fellows Park. We’ve had some impactful forwards at various levels. Killer, Jorge, Bradshaw, Deeney, Fryatt.
I know it’s Div4, but something about Lowe is so much classier and clinical than those others. Jorge will always be my hero. But I really do think Lowe might go on to be something levels above anything else that’s passed through our doors.
Loved Stirks header in the move for the third goal.
Think you are right.
Not sure how much we get as a Club per game from the tv sponsorship but that game probably would have seen around another 1000 paying supporters from us and Notts County if not on tv. Add to that the season ticket holders deciding to stay in the warm on a cold December night and not fight the traffic to get there takes some of the atmosphere away no doubt.
Glad I went though. No tv can take away from the sheer elation of 3 well worked and different goals from a team that oozes a mix of determination and team spirit and quality.
There were a few contenders for MOM but probably Stirk gets my vote in the engine room.
There’s no doubt that Nathan Lowe will be a PL player in the next few years. He has such a rare combination of skill and strength and hard work and an eye for goal that makes him a unique cocktail of Allan Clarke / David Kelly / Jorge. We are very lucky to have him with us and his love for our badge at present.
I live too far away to attend, so TV is my only option. I would however be more than prepared to pay a similar price to a season ticket so that the club could get the same financial benefit as they do from season ticket holders.
Win the league, how sweet that sounds!
I haven’t heard those words since Dickie Dosh was here nearly two decades ago.
That’s how long our fans have suffered for success. Will this be the season? As you said, we keep playing like this it will be.
Above all, a great game of football, played in good spirit by both sides and full of entertainment. McGoldrick was the best player I have seen this year in L2; if he gets injured, they will be in trouble. But we defended magnificently and are so dangerous up front.
Stirk, as he often is, was my MOTM but everyone played their part. I was a bit concerned that Hall would not be able to replace Jellis’s energy but he played very well and has quality.
The Notts manager would do well to concentrate on his own team and not moan about referees and the opposition not having injuries. The foul by Jatta on Simkin, which he likened to Allen’s goal, was an outright assault. Sadler never says these things.
Everyone put in a real shift but I am ambivalent about Okagbue. Some times he looks fantastic but then he makes a serious error, as he did last night. He perhaps deserves to keep his place but if McEntee is fit, he should be playing.
Finally, it was good to see Gordon and Bennett in fine form and with no signs of fatigue. Gordon seemed to get more energetic as the game progressed.
Haven’t been to a match in person this year if it’s been on tv
Times are expensive and if I get to watch some matches on tv which allows to afford some of those which aren’t on tv it’s good for me as it means i get to see more games !
Also it’s a Tuesday night game and it’s cold lol
Yes I think the Club must be concerned about the low attendances on Tuesday nights. I know a number of season ticket holders who don’t come and watch it on the TV. I don’t blame them on these cold winter nights but I hope that the TV deal took into account the full loss of revenue on such evenings. It is not just the ticket revenue either is it ? When people come most buy something else which helps the Club’ s finances.
That was a great response after Saturdays defeat.
Notts County played some nice stuff but didn’t n’t really do much with the possession, we on the other hand though not at our best in the first half eventually got going and gave a great demonstration of why we’re serious promotion contenders.
The highlight of the game surely had to be that third goal which was beautifully worked.
What does concern me is when we are 3 1 up and ought to be coasting and we concede what looks like a soft goal making it squeaky bum time.
I thought he was absolutely Gold for them .
